Last Updated: 2024/11/24, Farmers' families in Tibet have been fighting tiger crossbows for a hundred years and have a heavy range of 500 meters.

Wu Zhanwu, a 61-year-old Miao villager who lives in Panzhai Village, Yuankou Town, Tianzhu County, was born in a "hunting family." he still keeps at home three "century-old crossbows" handed down by his ancestors, which are said to be specially used to fight tigers. 14 tigers were captured in the year of hunting.

According to Wu Zhanwu, these three giant crossbows have been handed down for at least four generations. Each crossbow weighs about 8 jin, the long arms of the two crossbows are 1.6 meters long and the short arms are 1.5 meters long. These giant crossbows have a range of up to 500 meters, but the best distance to shoot a tiger is about 200 meters, and it must be fatal with an arrow, or it will be retaliated by the injured tiger.

As the only son of the family, Wu Zhanwu was forbidden to go hunting with him. Although he had never seen the scene of shooting a tiger with his own eyes, when he was five or six years old, he saw his elders carry tigers into their homes from the mountains.

As the Wu family is an expert in fighting tigers, it has a high prestige in the village and the name of the village. In the fifties and sixties of the last century, these three giant crossbows made great contributions to solving the problem of food and clothing and improving food for the villagers. But as there are fewer and fewer tigers in the mountains, the hunting family has long been out of business.
