Xupu, Henan Province: Growing Onion to Get Rich Good Hope
On May 30, at the farmland base of four Seasons onions in Hengbanqiao Village, Longtan Town, Henan Province, farmers in twos and threes were busy on the base, washing, packing and packing the harvested spring onions on the side of the road.
Speaking of spring onions, we are no stranger, it is an important ingredient for cooking delicacies, but in Hengbanqiao village, spring onions have a different "mission". It is not only a purse for villagers to increase their income and become rich. it also carries farmers' hopes for this land and their hopes for a better life.
"this batch of spring onions harvested today is going to be shipped to Guangzhou, and it will appear on the market in Guangzhou tomorrow morning." Wu Houlang, branch secretary of Hengbanqiao Village, told the reporter happily.
In the evening, although there are no flowers competing for beauty in the fields of the village, the new green all over the land is also dizzying, and the most enjoyable is the green green field, which is even more vibrant in the afterglow of the setting sun.
Chen Bailian, a 40-year-old spring onion grower in the village who is busy pulling grass for the four seasons, told reporters: "thanks to the warm and humid climate this spring, the overall trend of temperature is stable, and the spring onions are growing well. It is estimated that our production of spring onions will increase by about 20% this year."
A few years ago, the village mainly grew rice and corn, and the income brought to farmers by growing grain was not optimistic. Many young people in the village choose to go out to work, and the old people stay at home and continue to cultivate the farmland.
"Wang Xiaobin, as the 'first person' in the development of spring onions in our village, has been planting spring onions in Hainan until 2010. In 2011, he returned to his hometown to plant nearly 30 mu of spring onions, earning a lot of income, attracting and driving some people in the village to plant spring onions to become rich. " Wu Houlang said.
"now, the purchase price of spring onions is not bad, with an average price of about 4 yuan / jin. With a yield of 2000 jin per mu, the market is now in great demand, with an income of as little as 8000 yuan per mu to more than 10000 yuan, which is several times higher than that of planting rice fields. " Villager Wang Tianzhang said.
The growing period of spring onions is mainly in spring and summer. Spring onions are drought-resistant and heat-resistant, and their requirements for soil, temperature, fertilizer and seedling age are not strict, and they have strong disease resistance, so they are more suitable for popularization and planting. In May 2013, the village established a leap soil vegetable company, and more than 30 members have joined the company. Chen Bailian, the legal representative of the company, told reporters: "after we established the company, we directly docked with other markets and established a supply and marketing partnership. At present, our village and the neighboring Shiwan village have developed more than 320 mu of scallion fields. "
In order to improve the agricultural technology management level of growers and change the traditional planting concepts and methods, the town also regularly sends agrotechnical experts to the field for technical guidance, through the scientific management of onion fields, reduce diseases, increase yield and increase income.
Chen Xiaoling, a big onion grower in the village, came over and said to the reporter, "I have grown spring onions for several years, and my income is getting better and better every year. Now my life is getting more and more hopeful. My hope is all in these 20 mu of onion fields."
Recently, orders from Huaihua, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan, Guangzhou and other places come one after another, and the village's four Seasons onions are favored by the market because of their green, white and fragrant characteristics. (Zhang Xian)
