He is a veteran deputy to the National people's Congress who has served for more than 30 years and a veteran entrepreneur who has been engaged in the glass industry for 30 years. There are too many bright spots in him.

From the most primitive "Xiao Pingla" to the "three machine kiln"; from the first introduction of Belgian "grid method" production technology, to their own exclusive research and development of high white glass, and then to the introduction of Danish coating technology, all the way, his products have been at the highest end of the market. The tireless pursuit of product quality is the eternal theme of his enterprise.

Now, over 60 years old, he has exclusively introduced the world's most advanced modern Dutch agricultural planting technology in the country, realizing a great leap in the industry. He is Xu Liang Zhen Sigou Village Branch Secretary and Chairman of Henan Yuhua New Materials Co., Ltd., Xuliang Town, Boai County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province. On April 21, 2016, the reporter interviewed him face to face to inquire about his road to "supply-side" reform.

Make only the best products all your life.

Reporter: we know that you have a history of starting a business six times and accomplishing six leaps. How did this legend happen?

Sui Tingyu: Sigou Village used to be famous for producing grate. However, 2600 men, women and children in the village guarded more than 500 mu of bamboo garden and 600 mu of arable land, which could not get rid of poverty and backwardness.

In 1978, I transferred from the army and returned to the village. Since then, I have made up my mind to find a way for Sigou Village to shake off poverty and become rich. In 1980, after a long trip to visit more than half of China, I submitted the proposal for the Xiaopingla Glass Factory project to the village committee. In the winter of this year, the construction of Xiao Pingla Glass Factory in Sigou Village began.

Reporter: at the beginning of China's reform and opening up in 1980, it took great foresight and courage to set up an enterprise. where did the money come from?

Jin Tingyu: yes, at that time, everything in China was reviving. The turmoil of the Cultural Revolution for many years led to a long period of economic stagnation or even retrogression. Steel, wood, cement, glass and other commodities were extremely scarce, so it was a good time to be a business. As a farmer, to start an enterprise from scratch, capital is indeed the biggest problem.

In order to raise nearly 2 million yuan, I took out the army transfer fee and family savings, with loans of more than 1 million yuan, capital construction materials for the factory, and other credits. In short, after untold hardships, the Xiao Pingla Glass Factory was built. One year after the enterprise was put into production, the whole village realized the benefit of per capita income of more than 600 yuan.

Reporter: the goods were so scarce at that time, there must be no problem with the glass market, right?

Kui Tingyu: at that time, supply fell short of demand. At the national building materials products order conference held in Tianjin in 1983, we received more than 5 million yuan in advance, and this order meeting finished my output in the past two years.

With these deposit and some bank loans, I raised more than 8 million yuan to join the vertical glass production line of the three machine kiln, which was the leading technology in China at that time.

The annual enterprise tax exceeded 10 million in the 1980s.

Reporter: at that time, the market of Xiao Pingla was so good, why did you spend a lot of money on the three machine kiln?

Kui Tingyu: at that time, the glass produced by Xiao Pingla was in short supply. But it is very low-grade civil glass, the quality and production capacity are not good. Although there is no problem with the immediate market, the quality of the product is not good after all. I have a habit of doing things like this all my life. To do this, you have to make the best products. You can't just focus on the present.

Reporter: some people call the "Sanji kiln" your second venture. At that time, what was the benefit after it was put into production at such a high cost?

Kui Tingyu: in April 1983, we built a vertical glass production line with a three-machine kiln, which was the first in the rural areas of the country at that time. Of course, the benefit is very good. The annual profit and tax has reached more than 6 million yuan, and the annual per capita net income of our village has increased to more than 1000 yuan.

With money at that time, we began to build a well-off village. Since 1985, we have built villas, which are the first in Henan Province and even in northern China. Our village is called "Central Plains well-off Village".

Editor's note: in 1985, which was also the second year after the glass production line was vertically introduced into the Sanji kiln, Luo Tingyu ushered in a new glory in life: the annual profit and tax of the enterprise exceeded 5 million, and he was selected as a member of the Jiaozuo Municipal CPC Committee and a deputy to the Henan Provincial people's Congress. From then on, he began his career as a member of the municipal party committee for 10 years, a deputy to the provincial people's Congress for 25 years, and a deputy to the municipal people's Congress for three years.

Thirty years of sharpening a sword and finally becoming a leader in the glass industry.

Reporter: in which year was the "Gefa" production line introduced?

Kui Tingyu: negotiations started in 1993 and were completed and put into production in March 1996, with a total investment of 120 million yuan.

Reporter: why did it cost so much to import production lines from abroad at that time?

Kui Tingyu: the benefit of "Sanji kiln" has been very good since it was put into production. However, after the 1990s, small glass factories around the country have been launched, the market structure has been disrupted, began to appear product backlog, difficult to recover and other problems. At this time, I think we must keep up with social development and the requirements of the situation, eliminate backward old production capacity, and keep up with more advanced technology.

At that time, the glass produced in China could not be compared with the advanced products in the world in terms of thinness, flatness, transmittance and so on. After careful investigation and calm analysis, we have introduced advanced production technology from Belgium.

At that time, the quality of our glass was greatly improved, and we were able to produce glass with a thickness of one millimeter, which was the first in the country. Production capacity has also been increased to more than 1.5 million weight boxes. Once again, the supply of products exceeds demand.

Reporter: your high white glass is developed by yourself? What's going on?

Kui Tingyu: the market is changing all the time, and it is an immutable rule to eliminate backward products. Therefore, I am particularly sensitive to products, maintaining the most advanced technology and providing the highest quality products is the way for enterprises to stand at the forefront of the trend. This is one of the connotations of the "supply-side reform" advocated by the central government.

Since 2002, I began to develop my own high-white glass with ultra-high light transmittance, which took me more than two years to develop. I applied for three invention patents. Our high-white glass had a light transmittance of 91.5%, and it was the first in the country at that time. Due to the good quality of the products, I am the only one in the country, and there is a scene in the 1980s, where customers live in the factory without asking the price and wait for the products to be robbed. At that time, my high-white glass sold for 120 yuan per square meter.

Reporter: later, your hard-working technology was stolen?

Jin Tingyu: yes, why is the R & D enthusiasm of domestic enterprises not high? our intellectual property protection system really needs to be improved.

In 2007, my factory director in charge of technology was poached by others, and my hard-working production technology of high white glass was leaked. The high-white glass produced by other manufacturers went on the market in large quantities, and the price immediately fell, and at present it only sells for more than 30 yuan a square.

Interviewer: what should we do?

Jin Tingyu: it is still the old way to continue to improve the quality of products, which is the magic weapon in an invincible position. In 2009, I began negotiations with a Danish company to buy out his glass coating technology exclusively. By plating a film on my high-white glass, the light transmittance can be further increased to 97.5%, which is still the only one in the country. In 2012, we invested more than 150 million yuan to build five glass coating production lines. At present, our products are specially for the Dutch, European and American markets, and they are special glass for foreign agricultural production greenhouses.

Editor's note: it was the trip that was invited to inspect Dutch agriculture that once again completely changed the direction of Gui Tingyu's life. He was shocked that European agriculture is so advanced, European land utilization is so high, by contrast, we are too backward. An old horse in the stable still aspires to gallop a thousand miles. So, in his sixties, he embarked on a new journey into high-tech agriculture.
