What is the current situation of biomass power generation in China?

By the end of 2015, the total installed capacity of biomass power generation in China is 10.31 million kilowatts, and 29 provinces (cities and autonomous regions) have built biomass power generation projects.

When it comes to agricultural and forestry leftovers, the five southern provinces are also large areas of agricultural and forestry production: Rice, sugar cane, natural rubber. The leftovers of these agricultural and forestry crops can also generate electricity. At present, the construction of the first biomass power generation project in Hainan Province is being actively promoted by the Southern Power Grid Energy Company. After the completion of the project, about 98900 tons of standard coal can be saved every year.

Biomass direct-fired power generation is the main form of utilization of biomass energy in China. The 12th five-year Plan for Biomass Energy Development points out that the total amount of biomass resources that can be used as energy in China is about 460 million tons of standard coal per year. At present, about 22 million tons of standard coal has been used, with a utilization rate of less than 5 percent. This means that biomass power generation still has 95% room to rise!

By the end of 2015, China's cumulative biomass design installed capacity was 6700 megawatts, which was lower than the development target set by the National Energy Administration, and accounted for less than 1 per cent of the country's total installed power generation capacity of 1506700 megawatts.
