Hebei Qiannanyu Village "Fruit Tree + Landscape" walks out of the Road to Wealth

In June, on the winding mountain road leading to the depths of the Taihang Mountains in Qiannanyu Village, Xingtai, Hebei Province, the fruit trees all over the mountain seemed to bear brown blessings one by one. A closer look shows that most of the fruit on the tree is wrapped in small Kraft paper bags. Only a few unbagged cyan fruits show that this is an apple tree.

The apple bagging technology was developed by Li Baoguo, a late professor at Hebei Agricultural University, to help fruit growers here. In autumn, bagged apples are big and red, bringing long-term benefits to the villagers. The lush apple trees are also interspersed with long-leaved chestnut trees, which are the main fruit in Qiannanyu. Villagers have been planting Chinese chestnut since the late 1970s, but the average yield per tree was only 1 kg. In recent years, the village has adopted the "two-branch renewal and pruning method" developed by Professor Li Baoguo for three years. Through renewal and construction, nutrients have been concentrated and quality has been improved, and the annual output has increased from the initial 70, 000 kg to 400000 kg.

Forest and fruit industry is the primary industry in Qiannanyu village. In recent years, through ecological management, scientific and technological support, and the development of sightseeing agriculture, Qiannanyu has built the mountain area into a "Huaguo Mountain" that combines ecological and economic benefits. At present, there are 300000 fruit trees per capita in the village. In 2015, the annual per capita income of fruit alone reached 6800 yuan, accounting for 57.6% of the overall per capita net income.

More than 20 foreign excellent new varieties have also been introduced into the fruit production base in Qiannanyu, including American grapes, Ukrainian cherries, Kate apricots, raspberries, Australian nectarines, European hazelnuts and thin-skinned walnuts. Tourists can pick fresh fruit from March to November every year. Last year, the scenic spot received more than 600,000 tourists, tourism ticket revenue of 9.6 million yuan, tourism-driven income of 18.6 million yuan.

Wang Haishu, a 46-year-old villager from Qiannanyu Village, once told reporters that from barren mountain to "Huaguo Mountain", having a good scenery is tantamount to planting a "cash cow" that can sell fresh fruit as well as scenery, thanks to the government's comprehensive mountain management and eco-economic ditch construction.

In the past, Qiannanyu was a famous poor mountain village. The mountain in Qiannanyu is a bald mountain composed of rocks. In 1963, a torrential rain washed away the mountains and destroyed village houses. Over the years, Qiannanyu people from top to bottom, a ditch to control the bare stone mountain. They cut holes at least one meter deep in hard rock with steel fiber, loaded with explosives, detonated with detonators, and broke the rock into pieces, which were used to build terraced dam edges and plant trees.

With the combination of Sichuan Road, Yang Liuqing, dry and fresh fruit on the gully slope, and pine and cypress on the top of the mountain, the villagers turned the once "barren land" into "the greenest place in Taihang Mountain". According to Guo Chengzhi, secretary of the former branch of the former Nanyu village, at present, there are 32 hilltops, 10 great ditches and 72 branch ditches in the village of more than 8000 mu, with a forest coverage rate of 90.7% and a vegetation coverage rate of 94.6%.

Water shortage is a major constraint to the economic development of Qiannanyu. Through various projects, the villagers have stored the water in the sky and blocked the water on the ground; at the same time, they have introduced advanced water-saving facilities in the world, and developed sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation and pipe irrigation, with a water-saving irrigation area of more than 3000 mu. In the past, one side of water could only water 10 trees, but now it can water at least 30 trees.

Qiannanyu Village also made efforts to develop deep processing of fruits, investing 38.6 million yuan to set up fruit processing plants and cold storages. the main products include vacuum ready-to-eat Chinese chestnut and registered "Qiannanyu" fruit series brands. In addition, Qiannanyucun is working with Tianjin University of Science and Technology to develop a series of products such as chestnut powder, chestnut beverage, chestnut wine and so on. The processing and production of agricultural products form an industrial chain and promote industrial management.
