Li Shuangjun, the owner of the orchard, said happily: "my 10 mu of land 'Phoenix Li' has been planted for only more than two years and is expected to produce 7500 kilograms of plums this year. Except that the prices sold to key merchants from other places are cheaper, the rest are sold at 40 yuan / kg, and the income from selling plums this year is 200000 yuan. If we enter the peak period in an all-round way, the yield and benefit per mu can also be greatly improved. "

Li Shuangjun, 48, once worked in Xichang Agricultural Science Institute and has been engaged in fruit production and research on new varieties for many years. Talking about the cultivation and planting experience of "Phoenix plum", Li Shuangjun told me that the reason why he is willing to make efforts on the development of new plum varieties is that compared with other fruit varieties, plums have stronger adaptability, low technical requirements, and relatively extensive management. and the fruit is suitable for consumption by all kinds of people. However, the problems existing for many years, such as backward plum varieties, more "road goods", poor quality, poor taste, poor marketing and so on, have restricted the development of plum industry. In order to fundamentally change this situation, since 2005, Li Shuangjun combined with all kinds of plum characteristics, carried out planting contrast experiment, after more than 5 years of painstaking exploration, finally selected the best variety of crispy red plum and grafted with a special kind of peach seedlings in Yunnan, and selected and cultivated it. In 2010, a unique new variety of plum was finally bred successfully.

Li Shuangjun said that this kind of plum has slender branches and is shaped like a "Phoenix tail", so it is named "Phoenix Li". Compared with similar plum varieties, its biggest advantage is that the production cycle is short, and the seedlings can be put into production after being planted in the ground for less than a year and a half. After two or three years, they gradually enter the high-yield period, and the highest yield can reach more than 3000 kg per mu. "and this kind of plum has purple-red pericarp, enucleated residue, tender flesh, crisp, sweet and delicious, and the sugar content is as high as 14%, which is 3% higher than that of similar plums. The granules are large and uniform, the mature time is early, and there are few diseases and insect pests. Regardless of the quality, taste, selling phase and production time, they are much better than similar varieties. " He said.

In order to plant a large area, Li Shuangjun planted a total of 500 "Phoenix plums" in 10 mu on the land transferred by Yueying Village, Xiuwen Town in the early winter of 2013. By the spring of 2015, the yield per plant will be 2.5-5kg, and the yield per mu of that year will reach more than 2000 kg. This year, it has entered mass production, with a yield of 12.5kg to 17.5kg per tree and a total output of 7500 kg of "Phoenix plum".

Li Shuangjun said that as soon as the fruit entered the harvest season, telephone calls for purchases continued, and merchants from Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing and other places flocked to buy the fruit on the trees. Although the retail price is now 40 yuan / kg, it is still in short supply, and even more than 100 yuan / kg in the high-end markets of cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. "after waiting for another two or three years to enter a comprehensive high-yield period, 'Phoenix plum' can produce more than 3000 kilograms per mu, and according to the lowest purchase price of 20 yuan / kg, the income per mu will be more than 60,000 yuan; if calculated at the retail price of 40 yuan / kg, the income per mu will reach more than 120000 yuan."

At present, Li Shuangjun has expanded the planting area of "Phoenix plum" to 220mu, and led Yueying village and surrounding villages to plant "Phoenix plum" of more than 1000 mu. "the 3 mu of Phoenix plum I planted last year has been bearing fruit one after another this year. Two or three years later, the income will be considerable.
