Chen Wenkai: master of Peking University leads farmers to plant "getting rich trees"

Chen Wenkai, a "post-85", is 31 years old. In 2012, with the halo of a graduate student of Peking University, he became an ordinary university student village official in Linguo Village, a new town in Yizheng, and embarked on the road of starting a business. Over the past four years, with his own persistence, he has constantly led local farmers on the road to prosperity and let his dreams shine on the fertile soil in rural areas. Chen Wenkai was born in rural Henan Province, graduated from Peking University majoring in Western philosophy, studied in Germany for a year, and can be regarded as a half-returnee. In 2012, after graduating from graduate school, he gave up the opportunity to work in a big city and came to Yizheng as a village official, which surprised and puzzled many people.

"I am from the countryside, and the countryside is actually very wonderful. Only when I really take root in it can I feel the fun here." When he came to the village in 2012, Chen Wenkai worked as a village cadre as a "translator" and visited nearly 100 villagers in the village, from low-income households and left-behind children to people in need and veteran party members.

During the visit, Chen Wenkai found that many villagers were not enthusiastic about farming, but many wanted to cultivate some cash crops. In 2013, Chen Wenkai suggested to the village that, with the village collective and willing villagers as the main body, set up specialized cooperatives for seedlings, develop the green seedling industry, and promote the common income of the villagers.

"it takes three years to grow seedlings to take effect. I can't wait three years." Chen Wenkai came up with a way for everyone to interplant edamame beans in the forest and develop three-dimensional agriculture. Chen Wenkai has planted 20 mu of exemplary land, and the net income of one mu of land is estimated to be about 2000 yuan. 20 mu of edamame bean grows well and ripens quickly. Chen Wenkai pulled a truckload of edamame beans to Yizheng vegetable market for wholesale, only to encounter trouble in sales. After coming back with unsold edamame beans, Chen Wenkai had a sleepless night and finally thought that he could sell edamame beans directly to residents in the neighboring community. As soon as he said it, he organized people to subcontract edamame beans in a package of five jin, using the brand of "University Student Village official Entrepreneurship Park edamame Dou" to pull edamame beans to the local New North Huayuan community. When the residents heard that the edamame beans were planted by university student village officials, they came to buy them one after another, and they sold out in less than half an hour. When the people in the village saw this, someone took Chen Wenkai by the hand and said, "the young man can bear hardships and have ideas, so he will follow you in the future!"

In May 2013, the Linguo Kaiyuan Flower and Seedling Professional Co-operative Society, a start-up project led by Chen Wenkai to get rich, was registered. The co-operatives are supported by the government at a higher level, but they are used to growing grain and want to plant flowers and trees all of a sudden, which is a little unacceptable to many farmers. Chen Wenkai held numerous village representative meetings to this end. "in rural areas, the work of the common people must be done well, and they must be made to fully understand the situation of this cooperative, or they must not do it for a long time." The cooperative finally won the support of the people, covering an area of 186 mu, attracting 150 villagers to participate.

By the end of 2014, the area of cooperative greening seedling base has been expanded to 296.2 mu. In 2015, the cooperative nursery officially began to operate seedlings, but the seedling market was depressed at that time. After market research, Chen Wenkai set up a garden company to undertake garden projects to maximize the added value of seedlings. After the operation of the garden company, the first project completed is the Ma San Road Greening Project. At that time, the weather was not beautiful, and the first batch of saplings ushered in a violent storm the night they were planted. Chen Wenkai immediately got up from bed and rushed to the construction site. Braving the wind and rain, he patrolled along Ma San Road and helped up the fallen trees one by one. In Chen Wenkai's mind, these trees are the result of his hard work with the people in the village, and they are the "cash cow" for getting rich, and there can be no mistakes.

In order to create a diversified product structure, Chen Wenkai strives to develop a three-dimensional ecological forestry economy dominated by the cultivation of green seedlings, supplemented by planting and breeding under the forest, among which there are 11 green tree species, such as camphor, magnolia, triangular maple, red peach, and so on. Under the forest economy, there are four varieties of kidney beans, such as black beans, green beans, soybeans and red beans, as well as poultry meat and egg products such as improved varieties of chickens and grass geese. In recent years, Chen Wenkai has made use of the vast amount of information on the Internet and the characteristics of convenient communication to comprehensively expand the customer base of cooperatives, establish basic files for existing consumers, record consumer preferences, improve after-sales service, and deepen customer relations. to provide customers with more value-added services.

The cooperative invigorates the collective economy of the whole Linguo village and enables the villagers to live a life of "common prosperity". Data show that since the project has been in operation for more than three years, the cumulative income of seedling management, garden engineering, and under-forest economy has reached more than 2.6 million yuan, driving the surrounding masses to start 139 households, and promoting villagers to increase their annual income by more than 700 yuan per mu.

Now, Chen Wenkai holds the post of deputy director of the villagers' committee of Linguo Village, secretary of the Youth League Committee of the new town, and secretary of the party branch of the New North Huayuan community. in the past two years, he has married a local girl and has children, and has really taken root in this land. make Linguo Village your real home.
