He is Wu Zhi, a villager from Huashu Village, Dongsheng Town, Yingshan County, Sichuan Province.

Walking into the pomegranate garden, the reporter met Liu Jiming, secretary of the village party branch. "this is the 450 mu boutique pomegranate garden created by Wu Zhi." Liu Jiming told reporters.

Wu Zhi was born in 1976 into a poor peasant family in Birch Village. After graduating from junior high school, Wu Zhi went south with a dream. After more than 10 years of efforts, he has made some achievements in the construction industry. However, he did not forget the hometown where he was raised.

During the Spring Festival in 2011, Wu Zhi returned to his hometown where he had been away for many years. Seeing the muddy road that became muddy as soon as it rained, he donated 400000 yuan to build the road. driven by him, villagers donated more than 160000 yuan one after another, and the villagers also spontaneously raised some funds. In 2012, a 4.5 km long village road was completed and opened to traffic.

Not only that, Wu Zhi also donated 100000 yuan to his alma mater, Yanjing Pujiang Hope Primary School, to improve school conditions. "I feel happy to do something for the villagers. I hope there will be a better tomorrow in my hometown." Wu Zhi, who won the third public morality award ceremony in Yingshan County in 2013, said.

Wu Zhi believes that if villagers want to live a rich life, it is not enough to build roads, and they must develop promising industries.

Successful planting of soft seed pomegranate with tenacity

"not only in Yingshan, but currently there are no pomegranates planted within 800 kilometers of Yingshan." Wu Zhi said. A few years ago, in order to change the backwardness of Birch Village, Wu Zhi's first thought was to introduce business owners back to his hometown to start a business, but many friends flinched for various reasons. "it looks like you have to do it yourself." So Wu Zhi led village cadres and representatives of the masses to inspect many developed agricultural areas across the country, and finally decided to develop the pomegranate planting industry in Huashu Village. In the second half of 2014, Wu Zhi spent most of his time returning to his hometown to reclaim barren mountains and wasteland and build 450 mu of pomegranate plantations.

"Wu Zhi himself is not sure whether the birch village can produce pomegranates." Liu Jiming said that Wu Zhi led you to inspect and study in the country's six major pomegranate producing areas and bought back more than 10 kinds of pomegranate trees of different ages. At the end of 2014, more than 40,000 pomegranate trees, mainly Tunisian soft-seed pomegranates, "settled" in Birch Village for the first time.

After waiting patiently, the pomegranate trees in Manshan blossomed in May 2015. After a month or two, the pomegranate flower turns into a smooth little pomegranate and grows slowly.

Expand ideas to create a beautiful "pomegranate village"

"the pomegranate tastes good and the seeds are hard to throw up!" But Wu Zhi's soft-seed pomegranate doesn't have to spit out seeds, which is an eye-opener to the villagers.

It is understood that when Tunisia and China established diplomatic relations in 1986, six soft-seed pomegranate seedlings were donated. After decades of cultivation, these soft-seed pomegranates from Tunisia have become a well-known pomegranate variety in China.

"the vitamin C content of pomegranate is one or two times higher than that of apples and pears, while the content of fat and protein is less." Wu Zhi said, "the market value of soft seed pomegranate is higher, with a price of more than 30 yuan per kilogram."

"more than 5 tons of pomegranate were harvested in the first year of 2015, and this year's output is expected to be more than 20 tons." He Xianyun, the administrator, pointed to the pomegranate tree full of fruit. The reporter counted at the scene that there were more than 100 fruits in a tree. "generally speaking, a fruit weighs eight or nine taels, and the output of such a tree is more than 50 kilograms." He Xianyun said.

Led by Wu Zhi's demonstration, many villagers are eager to try. Liu Yongjun of group 6 and Liu Yonghui of group 9 originally had small achievements in starting a business outside the country, but they also resolutely returned to their hometown for development, each transferring more than 70 mu of land and working together with Wu Zhi.

"in May this year, we applied to set up a professional cooperative of Zhouyuan fruit industry, including 79 large growers, land transfer households and precision poverty alleviation households." Wu Zhi said, "the structural mode of 'cooperative + base + branch + member' and the operation mode of 'six unified divisions' are adopted, that is, unified management, introduction, fertilizer supply, technical training, disease and pest control, packaging recycling, and household planting. It has solved the worries of farmers in planting pomegranate."

Liu Jiming said that the villagers are very enthusiastic about planting pomegranate trees. By the end of this year, the pomegranate planting area of the whole village will reach more than 2000 mu.

"when the pomegranate blossoms this year, it has attracted many outsiders to come to watch. At present, preparations are under way for the first pomegranate blossom festival and pomegranate picking festival next year, and pomegranate adoption activities will be carried out to promote the development of rural tourism." Wu Zhi talks about the future full of confidence. "in three or five years, Birch Village will become a veritable pomegranate village."
