In the mountainous areas in the west of Luoyang, many families have such a tree in front of or behind their houses. It was a life-saving tree for mountain farmers in the 1950s and 1980s.

These trees are actually sandalwood used to make rice paper. Farmers collect a large number of sandalwood leaves-sandalwood leaves. Every year in March of the lunar calendar, sandalwood trees sprout soon, the sandalwood leaves are tender and glossy. A stroke, clean water Amoy, into the corn soup, boil out of the soup sweet and delicious, fragrance overflowing.

In the era of "a year of leaves and half a year of grain", each household had three or five barns, most of which were used to hold this kind of leaves.

Now these Jingtun have become works of art, but at that time, farmers in poor mountain areas did not have this kind of leisure, they were used to load vegetables to save lives.

My father said that at that time, when the sandalwood trees sprouted in the spring, the village labourers would bring dry food and go to the mountains 30 miles away from home to stroke the sandalwood leaves. Tender sandalwood leaves are not so easy to find, because there are too many people stroking, it is not easy to find a sandalwood tree, leaving only a few lonely old leaves, maybe not much for a long time. One lucky day, take a load of sandalwood leaves home, remove impurities and spread them outside to dry, and then put them in a Jing hoard.

If you have a large population, you have to take a few loads of food a year, and you will eat it from spring to winter. Later, for convenience, everyone planted sandalwood trees in front and back of their houses.

Decades have passed and the sandalwood tree has grown up. The sandalwood tree outside my courtyard is the largest in the village. Because it happens to be at the entrance of the village, it is a good place for the whole village to enjoy the cool. Now, great changes have taken place in farmers' living standards. Instead of using sandalwood leaves as food, sandalwood trees have become a landscape with luxuriant branches and leaves.

Last year, someone went to the mountains to buy trees and said they were going to plant them in the city. They asked my family whether they would sell them for 1000 yuan, but my father did not buy them. Father said: "it is a scenery, is the whole village to enjoy the cool place, but also a kind of nostalgia!"
