Piglet diarrhea is a disease with a very high incidence in pig production, which is no stranger to both large-scale pig farms and free-range farmers. Diarrhea in piglets will slightly affect growth, and in serious cases, piglets will soon die of dehydration, causing huge losses to pig farms. At present, the weather is getting colder and the incidence of diarrhea will increase significantly, so I would like to summarize the causes of diarrhea and hope that you can treat it.

Causes of diarrhea in piglets

1. Due to immature immune system and weak epidemic force, newborn piglets cannot resist the outside world, which will lead to piglet diarrhea.

2. After weaning, piglets will be separated from sows, which can easily cause stress reaction in piglets and lead to diarrhea due to the decrease of resistance.

3. The digestive organs of newborn piglets are underdeveloped, which can lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction and diarrhea.

4. Newborn piglets have immature nervous system and weak ability to regulate temperature, which leads to the decrease of piglet resistance, which will cause piglet diarrhea.

5. Postpartum sows with no milk or too thick or too thin milk will also cause diarrhea in piglets.

6. Porcine epidemic diarrhea, transmissible gastroenteritis, rotavirus and porcine pseudorabies are all diarrhea caused by viral diseases.

7. Escherichia coli can cause yellow and white dysentery of piglets, Clostridium welchii C can cause red dysentery of piglets, Salmonella can cause paratyphoid fever of piglets, and Treponema pullorum can cause diarrhea of piglets. Diarrhea is caused by bacterial diseases.

8. Parasitic diseases can also cause diarrhea in piglets. It is mainly caused by diarrhea caused by coccidia and Ascaris suis, esophageal nematodes, caterpillar nematodes, protozoa and other nematodes in the digestive tract.

Differential diagnosis method

1. Judge according to Piglet Day.

Red dysentery occurred in 1-2-day-old piglets, which was caused by Clostridium welchii type C. From 1 to 10 days, multiple yellow dysentery and white dysentery of piglets were caused by E. coli. Porcine dysentery is caused by the interaction between Treponema suis and anaerobes in the intestinal tract. Coccidiosis often occurred at the age of 8 ~ 15 days. Rotavirus disease occurred frequently at the age of 10-60 days. There were multiple Strongyloides at the age of 15 ~ 90 days.

2. Judge according to the size of the pig

Small and weak porcine diarrhea: mostly caused by hypoglycemia. Individual large, individual-like porcine diarrhea: mostly clostridium enteritis.

3. Judge according to the degree of diarrhea in pigs.

Recessive occurrence, slow spread, aggravation over time, resulting in bacterial or parasitic diarrhea. Explosive, rapidly spreading diarrhea, resulting in viral diarrhea.

4. Judge according to feces

The spray of the water sample is caused by a virus. Stickiness and paste are caused by bacteria. Paste, yellowish gray and stench are caused by coccidial diarrhea. White paste and yellow mucus are caused by E. coli.

The above is the analysis of the classification and differential diagnosis of piglet diarrhea. I hope it will be helpful to all farmers.
