Last Updated: 2024/09/19, The doubling of apple output in ten years has become the key to the development of the export market.

Many friends like to eat an apple between meals, sweet and sour, sweet and juicy, with comprehensive nutrition and easy to be absorbed by the human body, while apple, a delicious fruit, is a huge industry.

Half of the world

According to a report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in June, global apple production will reach 76.9 million tons in the 2015-2016 season, especially in China, which increased by 2.1 million tons over the same period last year to 43 million tons. This is due to China's good climatic environment and fertile soil suitable for crop growth.

Although the output is huge, but the export volume in the past years is not very large, about 1 million tons a year, of course, there are ups and downs.

The report also predicts that China's Apple exports will increase by 400000 tons to 1.2 million tons.

Well, in fact, last year, that is, June 2015, after long-term negotiations, Shanxi Yuncheng Apple exported to the United States for the first time on behalf of Chinese apples, becoming a milestone in the development of the domestic apple industry. According to local reports, Yuncheng is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, located in the Golden Triangle of the Shanxi-Shaanxi-Henan Yellow River. It is recognized as the "golden production belt" of apples in the world, and has been designated as the dominant industrial belt of apples on the Loess Plateau by the Ministry of Agriculture.

As the USDA report points out, Chinese apple exports are mainly from Asian countries, including Bangladesh and Thailand.

Double in ten years

In 2003, domestic apple production was 21 million tons, and by 2015 it had almost doubled to 41 million tons.

Some industry insiders have written that "China's Apple accounts for less than 2% of high-end markets such as Australia, the United States, and Canada, and markets such as Japan and South Korea have not yet liberalized China's Apple access, resulting in a serious imbalance between supply and demand."

Experts from the Shandong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau pointed out that excessive market concentration can easily impact the market of the importing country and the local fruit industry, increasing the possibility of the importing country imposing restrictions on our export fruit, and at the same time reducing the ability of export enterprises to resist risks due to the changes in the economic and trade policies of the importing countries, which is not conducive to the sustained and healthy development of the fruit industry.

Shandong apples account for 1/3 of exports, while Yantai apples are "superior in quality and price".

In 2015, Yantai had an apple planting area of 2.72 million mu, with a total output of about 5.5 million tons, an increase of about 15 per cent over the previous year.

"this year's output is 20% to 25% more than last year. Qixia accounts for 1/5 of the national apple market share, and now supply exceeds demand. " Sun Lingyun, vice president of Yantai Fruit Industry Chamber of Commerce, said when facing the media in March this year. "it is not normal that Apple has increased its output by 87% this year in Fuji alone. If apple sales are to be improved, more efforts must be made to reduce the cost and improve the scientific planting of varieties. " A president of the Yantai Apple Association surnamed Jiang told reporters.

Fuji Apple was introduced into China in 1966. Today, Fuji apples are widely planted in Liaoning, Shandong, Hebei, Beijing and other places, and have replaced the late-ripening variety Guoguang. Fuji has the characteristics of late ripening, high quality, delicious taste, storage resistance and so on, in which storage resistance is very important, the temperature should be controlled, and Fuji apples can be preserved for 5 to 7 months.

International market

Poland is the world's largest exporter of apples, accounting for 80% of its output. In second place is China, followed by the United States. Chile and Italy are also important Apple exporters.

Poland exported 1.2 million tons of apples in 2013. In July 2014, Russia announced a ban on imports of most Polish fruits and vegetables, after nearly 2/3 of Polish apples were exported to Russia. Since then, on the one hand, Russia has expanded its imports of apples from China, on the other hand, Poland hopes to export apples to the Chinese market.

"Polish fruit growers are very interested in the Chinese market, and of course we know that this is a brand new market, with opportunities and challenges," Margaret, director of the Fruit Alliance, a Polish fruit and vegetable distributor association, said in an interview with China Business Daily this year. "

e-Buniness

Indian merchants reached an export order of 5000 tons of Apple with Luochuan, Shaanxi Province through a cross-border e-commerce platform in March 2016, the China News Service reported. This is the first time that local Apple has "gone to sea" in the form of e-commerce.

Zhang Xingrui, deputy director of Shaanxi Fruit Administration, said that e-commerce is an important measure to promote the transformation and upgrading of the province's fruit industry, and will continue to promote fruit industry information construction and expand export channels in the future.

Domestic well-known apples include Gansu Tianshui Niu Apple, Shaanxi Luochuan Fuji, Qianxian Red Fuji, Shandong Hongxing, Shanxi Wanrong and so on.

In two aspects, Apple is a variety that overseas buyers are very familiar with, but on the other hand, in terms of agricultural procurement, contacting Chinese suppliers is a time-consuming and laborious task. The customer doesn't even know where the supplier is. And agricultural e-commerce, the time, place, people, things, as well as procurement reasons are well presented on the network.

Shaanxi News broadcast reported that fruit exports increased sharply in the first half of this year, with a good momentum, including apple exports of 51000 tons, a 2.8-fold increase over the same period last year. The report also pointed out, "among the many agricultural products exported by our province, apple juice is the favorite of foreigners, with exports of 95000 tons in the first half of the year, an increase of 31 percent." The United States and ASEAN are the main export markets. "

One mu of field analysts believe that Apple's export is not to seek a market with more volume and not to find such a big market, but to adjust the product structure based on the consumer preferences of different markets, and to further strengthen the industry on the basis that the industry has become bigger.

In the supply-side structural adjustment of the industry, the application of agricultural e-commerce is particularly important.
