"Chinese eel looks at Guangdong, Guangdong eel looks at Shunde." Shunde is the hometown of eel in China. Now the new eel cultivation pattern of "Shunde Headquarters + Taishan Breeding Base" is affecting the global eel consumption market and becoming an important link affecting the global eel industry chain.

In order to better promote Shunde eel industry and show Shunde's charm in more dimensions, on the evening of August 13, a three-episode documentary film "The Story of Eel" jointly produced by CCTV Record Channel, Guangdong Province Eel Industry Association, Propaganda Department of Shunde District Committee and Shunde District Agricultural Bureau was announced to be started for shooting. This series of documentaries will also take over the national food documentary "Exploring Shunde" during May Day this year and continue to tell the story of Shunde to the world.

Why did the story of eel start shooting in shunde?

For many people, eel is not a common ingredient on the dining table. Even Shunde locals know many people about Shunde eel industry, but they often don't know why Shunde eel can make a name in the world and affect the global eel industry chain.

This time,"The Story of Eel" was filmed in Shunde, which is the right time. According to the introduction of eel industry association of Guangdong Province, as the world's largest eel breeding and exporting country, the live eel exported from China is basically produced in Guangdong. At present, Guangdong eel industry is influencing the world with the new pattern of "Shunde headquarters + Taishan breeding base." Every year, about 60% of eel production here is exported to more than 30 countries and regions such as Japan, the United States, the European Union, Russia, South Korea and Australia.

Because artificial reproduction is not yet possible, it can only come from eel seedlings produced in nature and scientific and delicate ecological breeding. Taishan, 100 kilometers away from Shunde, has become an excellent place for eel breeding. The climate, soil and pure water here are conducive to producing high-quality eels. Therefore, under the background of economic integration and regional integration development in the Pearl River Delta, the breeding links of Shunde eel industry gradually converge to Taishan, and "Taishan eel" has also become a national geographical indication protection product.

However, as the birthplace of eel industry, Shunde is still a very key link in eel industry. As early as the late 1980s, Shunde pioneered eel farming in soil ponds in China. With the development and expansion of eel industry, Shunde has become the headquarters base of eel processing and logistics by virtue of its strong enterprise strength, world-class equipment and scientific and perfect quality and safety control system.

How does a small eel affect the taste buds of the world?

Although eels are rare on the Chinese table, eels are a healthy food that is conducive to balanced nutrition in many countries.

Because it is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fatty acids,"eating eel rice in winter drives away the cold, and using eel to maintain the body in summer" is especially popular among diners in Japan and other countries. As the country that consumes the most eel in the world, Japan consumes about 1000 grams per person per year on average, and consumes as much as 100,000 tons per year. However, eels are difficult to breed in captivity, and production constraints have kept eel prices high on the international market.

It is worth mentioning that although the consumption of eel in the world, especially in Japan, is huge, it has strict requirements on the quality of imported eel products, which also makes many eel export areas rejected. Guangdong eel industry has established a set of quality and safety control system of "source control, process traceability and quality assurance", which makes exported eel one of the safest foods and maintains the image of Chinese food going to the world.

Tell the spirit of craftsmen with "eel story"

It is understood that the documentary "The Story of Eels" will tell the mysterious life trajectory of eels from a brand-new perspective and explore how it slowly and strongly changes human physical fitness; it can even affect an industrial chain that affects the whole world and become a barometer of natural balance and human survival. The film crew is the original crew of "Xunwei Shunde," which is expected to take one year to complete the shooting.

This time, the documentary film "The Story of Eel" was created. On the one hand, it popularized eel as a healthy food, and after "Exploring Shunde", it drove another round of Shunde food trend, promoted the further development of Shunde related industries, and enabled eel to take the express train of "World Food Capital" to a broader global market.

On the other hand, it is also expected to closely combine food with people, culture, industry and city to show the multi-dimensional charm of Shunde. Wang Yong, member of the Standing Committee of Shunde District Party Committee and Minister of Propaganda Department, believes that Shunde's pioneering domestic eel breeding method and the refinement and science pursued in the production and processing links bear the Shunde entrepreneurial spirit of "innovation, cooperation and integrity", which is the embodiment of a craftsman spirit.
