Mr. and Mrs. Zheng Haiou are working on the fruit trees in the pear orchard.

In more than 10 days, the golden pear will be ripe. Zheng Haiou estimates that this year's output will be 50% more than that of last year, reaching 500 tons. A few years ago, my father-in-law Gao Shanfeng must have worried about the sale of so many pears, but this year's pears were ordered 300 tons by a foreign trade company before they were put on the market.

Zheng Haiou said: "they want more, I dare not sell them all, there are other customers waiting for it."

This golden pear orchard is the painstaking work of Zheng Haiou's father-in-law Gao Shanfeng for half his life. In 2002, Gao Shanfeng invested 2 million yuan to set up the first golden pear production cooperative in Fangcheng County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. By around 2014, the scale of the Golden Pear Park has reached more than 500 mu, with an annual output of more than 300 tons.

The industry of golden pear is getting bigger and bigger, but the body of Gaoshanfeng is exhausted. In 2007, he was hospitalized for more than 20 days with acute myocardial infarction, and after 2010, he suffered from insufficient blood supply to the brain. Worried about his father-in-law Gao Shanfeng's health, Zheng Haiou gave up his job as a translator abroad in 2014 and returned to his hometown with her husband Gao Aoming to plant golden pears.

At first, father-in-law Gao Shanfeng did not agree. he thought that no matter how well the cooperative was run, he was still a farmer after all. He said, "you are both college students, so how can you give up your good work and do the farm work facing the loess and turning your back to the sky?" Gao Shanfeng also has an unspeakable worry: "now young people are spoiled from an early age, can they bear this kind of hardship?"

But Zheng Haiou was determined: "my parents-in-law are old and in poor health, and we can't rest assured outside." She and her husband are also very optimistic about the prospect of the golden pear industry and want to help the family make the current industry bigger and stronger.

Zheng Haiou graduated from Shijiazhuang Foreign language Translation Vocational College (now Hebei Foreign Studies University). Before 2014, she worked in a foreign company in Shanghai and was sent by the company to work as a French translator in South Africa with an annual salary of 300,000 yuan to 400,000 yuan. Her husband Gao Aoming also has a stable job at Shijiazhuang Army Command College. After returning to their hometown, the couple lost the opportunity to show their talents, and they had to learn planting skills from scratch.

"at that time, I stayed in the field every day, studying around my father and the old master." Zheng Haiou said that in order to master the planting skills of golden pears as soon as possible, she and her husband go into the pear orchard at 6 o'clock every morning and usually stay all day, eating lunch in the small house next to the pear orchard. The temperature in summer is usually above 35 degrees Celsius, and the pear orchard is even more stuffy, and their clothes are often soaked with sweat.

"when they both came back, they were both white and tender, and soon they were tanned." Gao Shanfeng was distressed to see his son and daughter-in-law working so hard, but he also dispelled the worry that they could not bear hardships.

In addition to learning from his father-in-law and his old master, Zheng Haiou often enters the tree garden with books planted in pear trees. "College students have to read when they plant trees," the workers joked. " But Zheng Haiou has his own idea: "Workers plant trees by experience, but experience cannot solve all problems. Only by combining theory with experience can pears be planted well."

With this tenacity, Zheng Haiou and her husband figured out the planting techniques of the orchard in less than two months. Now, if there is a problem with the pear tree, whether it is a disease or an insect pest, Zheng Haiou stands under the tree and estimates it.

After mastering the planting technology, the couple introduced a scientific management system and installed a monitoring system in the golden pear base. People can monitor the growth of every tree and pear in the office, and know the air temperature, humidity, nutrients of pear trees, pollination period and so on. From extensive management to fine management, the yield and quality of Golden Pear have been greatly improved. In 2015, the output of her golden pear orchard increased by 50%, with sales reaching 6.83 million yuan.

"before I came back, my parents didn't understand e-commerce and only relied on traditional front house sales. Now that we are back, we have to seize the channel of online sales. " Zheng Haiou said that changing the unitary sales model is also one of her goals. When Zheng Haiou returned to his hometown in 2014, he learned planting techniques while promoting golden pears online.

Now, they not only have the official website of the Golden Pear production Cooperative, but also have a number of e-commerce platforms. In 2015, the revenue of e-commerce alone reached more than 2 million yuan.

"Modern people pay attention to eating healthily and rest assured that we should show the quality of pears to consumers most intuitively." Every pear sold by Zheng Haiou's family has a QR code on the package. by scanning the code, consumers can watch the whole process of fruit tree cultivation, pear harvest and transportation.

With the innovation of ideas and the improvement of technology, Zheng Haiou and his wife made the golden pear bigger and stronger step by step. Last year, her family's golden pears went abroad and were exported to South Africa and other countries. This year, half a month before the fruit is ripe, the cooperative has received an order of 300 tons from a foreign trade company.

Zheng Haiou not only worked hard to manage his own golden pear orchard, but also provided saplings to farmers in Xichuan, Xixia, Nanzhao and other places around him, and also gave them help and guidance in the later planting process. Last year alone, cooperatives provided more than 500,000 saplings to non-local farmers.

Zheng Haiou said: "I hope that through our efforts, we will promote the development of the golden pear industry in Fangcheng County and let farmers get rich together."
