A few days ago, the reporter learned from the Municipal Committee of Agriculture that the 600000 mu of alpine vegetables planted in Chongqing this year have not only enriched the vegetable baskets of citizens in summer and autumn, but also led to an increase in the income of 100000 farmers.

It is understood that when vegetable bases in low-altitude areas of Chongqing change stubble and vegetables outside the city are affected by high temperature, the alpine vegetable bases located in southeast and northeast of Chongqing have become the main force to ensure the supply of "vegetable baskets" in the main city. Take Wulong County as an example, more than 2000 tons of vegetables are shipped to the main city every day, accounting for about 30 per cent of the city's supply. In addition to the traditional lotus white, Chinese cabbage and white radish, there are 17 varieties, such as tomato, cucumber, pepper, rape and so on.

Chen Meixiang, from Kaozi Village, Mugen Township, Wulong County, told reporters that her family planted seven or eight mu of "three big white" 10 years ago. When the market is depressed, Lianbai can only sell 0.2 yuan per kilogram, and the total income of seven or eight mu of land is only more than 10,000 yuan. Since 2010, under the guidance of vegetable experts of the Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, she and other villagers have successively changed varieties such as cucumbers and tomatoes. 3 mu of tomatoes can bring an income of 40,000 to 50,000 yuan.

Fan Guochang, deputy director of the Wulong County Committee of Agriculture, said 17 villages in the county have been lifted out of poverty by growing alpine vegetables.

"through the adjustment of the industrial structure, the alpine vegetable poverty alleviation industry not only ensures market supply, but also provides sustainable development power for farmers, especially poor households, in areas at an altitude of 800m to 2000 meters." Liu Baoguo, chief agronomist of the Municipal Committee of Agriculture, said.

Qiu Ning, deputy director of the vegetable Development Department of the Municipal Committee of Agriculture, said: at present, the planting area of alpine vegetables in the city has exceeded 600000 mu, driving more than 100000 farmers. It is estimated that by 2020, the planting area of the city will reach 800000 mu, of which the base area will reach 400000 mu, and the proportion of fine vegetables such as eggplant fruits, melons, legumes and loose leaf vegetables will exceed 50%.
