Recently, the "Grass and Animal Husbandry Experimental Zone" jointly built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Inner Mongolia Hulunbuir Land Reclamation Group has attracted the attention of politicians, industry and academia. People in the industry believe that grass and animal husbandry is an important way to increase farmers' income, an important part of agricultural supply-side structural reform, and an important measure for the construction of ecological civilization. Although the autumn grass is yellow, the affirmation from all walks of life still brings a bit of green to the grass industry.

In today's era of surplus of industrial and agricultural products, it is precisely a piece of grass that has become a shortage. Agricultural restructuring to increase the proportion of animal husbandry, forage feed market is broad; many mountains and rivers with sparse vegetation, looking forward to more grass partners "all over the ends of the earth"; "white disaster", "black disaster" and other natural disasters, calling for grass industry to make up for the fragility of animal husbandry production foundation; ornamental lawns and green fields in cities test the high-end supply of grass industry. The grass industry has a broad space for development, but facing the new test under the new situation, the grass industry still needs to continue to "increase green" from the following aspects.

Vegetation restoration of natural grassland is the main battlefield of grass industry development. People who have experienced life in pastoral areas all know that livestock-oriented "animal husbandry" values livestock rather than grass, and overgrazing not only leads to a decline in the number of livestock, but also causes great damage to the grassland. On the contrary, only the grass industry-oriented "grass and animal husbandry" can bring about a virtuous circle of production, life and ecology. In addition to taking measures to balance grass and livestock, such as forbidden grazing, suspended grazing and rotational grazing, since 2011, China has fully implemented the subsidy and incentive policy for grassland ecological protection in Inner Mongolia and other grassland pastoral provinces. This policy, which benefits the herdsmen a lot, is also a policy to encourage the development of the grass industry. Standard raising and expansion continue to reward and subsidize grassland ecology, achieve a high-level balance between grass and livestock, and become an important part of the "greening" of the grass industry.

Artificial recommendation has become a new addition to the development of grass industry. In addition to increasing a certain proportion of forage area in the sown area of cultivated land, the construction of feed base on grassland is also a realistic choice for the development of grass industry. Facts have proved that herdsmen set aside 5% of their grassland for high-yield forage planting, and on this basis, the rational use of 95% of the grassland can basically achieve a balance between grass and livestock and improve the living standards of herdsmen steadily.

Of course, the development of grass industry is inseparable from the support of scientific and technological progress. Transforming the achievements of scientific research into productive forces is the inevitable choice for grass industry to achieve leapfrog development. In Inner Mongolia and other places, grass industry leaders closely connected with scientific research institutes have emerged, among which Mengcao Group is a prominent representative. This kind of enterprises carry out grass product processing on the basis of doing grassland restoration operators, which brings benefits to the development of grass industry.
