In early June, Wang Bangzhong set out from Changputang Village, Fenghuang County, Hunan Province, and this time his destination was Beijing. Although there are still a few months to go before grapefruit and kiwifruit appear on the market, as one of the heads of the Changputang Fruit Co-operative, he wants to explore the new market to open up the market for grapefruit and kiwifruit planted on an expanded scale this year.

Tian Xiangqun set out from Guizhou and returned to Changputang Village. As the captain of the women's grafting service team in Changputang Village, he not only brought back more than 2 million yuan of income from leading female members and being busy with grafting for a year, but also returned to the village to prune kiwifruit trees.

"over the years, it is with the help of science and technology and the market that the ecological fruit industry in Changputang Village has developed from scratch, and the villagers have been able to take off the 'poor hat'. In the past two years, Changputang fruit has become more and more famous, and the life of the villagers has become sweeter and sweeter. " Speaking of the Changputang fruit industry, Wang Shang, chairman of the Changputang kiwifruit planting professional cooperative, is smiling.

Using science and technology to take root in the ravine

In the 1980s, when tourism in Fenghuang County was in full swing, Changputang Village, only 7 kilometers away from the county seat, was still an unknown poor mountain village of Tujia nationality, with many mountains and little land, and did not harvest rice for three years.

From growing rice and corn to changing to growing fruits, Changputang Village has tried a lot. In 1985, after the successful introduction of Gongchuan tangerine from Ninghai, Zhejiang Province, where there are new and good varieties suitable for both village cultivation and market, Changputang Village competed to introduce trial varieties: Xiangxi Ponkan, "Miliang No. 1" kiwifruit, Fujian Pinghe Guanxi honey pomelo, Sichuan Guangyuan Cangxi red kiwifruit and so on.

The villagers are quite proud that in Changputang Village, the introduction of a kind of fruit can form a scale in a year or two with only a few branches, and the fruit is of good quality and taste.

"the magic weapon for success is the grafting technology that everyone in our village has." Tian Xiaojun, a 42-year-old villager, told reporters, "I began to learn grafting at the age of 15. My master is my mother, and my mother's master is Wang Jingan, a village secretary."

In the eyes of the villagers, Wang Security is not only the village cadre and the head of the cooperative, but also the general scientific and technological director of the ecological fruit industry in the village, and the grafting technology of almost the whole village comes from him. At the age of 19, Wang, 65, first learned the technique of fruit tree grafting through an agricultural technology training course run by the county agricultural bureau.

After decades of exploration and practice, Wang Safety has constantly improved his methods. In the early 1990s, when everyone was still using the grafting method, he had taken the villagers to switch to the bud grafting method, which made the bud grafting technology leading the local use in western Hunan for nearly 10 years. Due to the use of bud grafting, the survival rate of fruit tree grafting is higher, the full fruit period is earlier, and the fruit tree varieties are updated faster.

The cooperative helps bring a group of modern agricultural talents to grow up.

Over the years, Wang has led cooperative members to travel north and south, providing grafting services for orchards all over the country.

"unexpectedly, I used to sell coolies, but now I still have a technical meal." Tian Xiangqun told reporters that 15 years ago she thought she was married into a "poor village", but now she seems to have married the right one. As soon as she married into Changputang Village, she began to learn the technique of grafting. In 2006, when a Sichuan fruit boss went to the village to look for a grafting, she and a group of villagers were well-paid to graft fruit trees in Sichuan.

Now every year in winter and spring, Tian Xiangqun and many villagers will receive orders from all over the country. in just three months, they will travel to Shaanxi, Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Chongqing and other places, and a female grafting worker can earn 20,000 to 30,000 yuan.

Good technology brings high benefits. The young people in the village are also willing to follow suit. At present, with the grafting service alone, the village can earn more than 4 million yuan.

With the continuous inheritance of grafting technology, it has also "grafted" a number of modern agricultural talents. In 2002, Wang received a certificate as an intermediate agricultural technician and became an "expert" with a certificate. After him, Ding Qingqing, chairman of the village seedling cooperative, also received a certificate as an intermediate agro-technician, and 12 fruit farmers received a certificate as a junior agrotechnician and became a "professional title" farmer.

Organized marketing of fruits and seedlings out of the mountains

Changputang Village has 1720 mu of land, in addition to more than 30 mu of cold soaked fields, all planted fruit, the whole village 217 households, no household does not eat "fruit rice", but Changpu Tang village fruit almost never worry about selling.

"this is due to the fact that cooperatives take the initiative to dock the market." Wang Bangzhong, director of the Changputang Village Committee and chairman of the grapefruit professional cooperative, introduced to the reporter that as early as 1998, before the first batch of kiwifruit in the village went on the market, he led the villagers to Guizhou and other places to set up sales windows.

In order to make the fruit of Changputang village go further, in 2008, the village set up a professional cooperative for kiwifruit planting in Changputang to carry out trademark registration, product certification, packaging design and unified marketing. In 2013, according to the variety demand, a grapefruit professional cooperative and a seedling professional cooperative were set up in the village. now, three cooperatives include more than 90% of the growers in the village.

In many years of fruit sales, Changputang Village has cultivated a number of marketing experts, 16 of whom have obtained rural broker certificates certified by the county department for industry and commerce. This capable team active in various places will bring in foreign businessmen and sell fruits and seedlings from Changputang Village and even Fenghuang County.

Tian Xiaojun told reporters that in the past, seedlings were only sold in the local market, but after joining the cooperative in 2013, the cooperative docked with the outside market, and the seedlings were sold to the surrounding counties, cities, and provinces, and the price was also sold from 2 to 3 yuan per plant to 5 yuan per plant.

"in the past, many villagers rode tricycles and set up roadside stalls to sell fruits and seedlings. After joining the co-operative, some members sometimes do not know that the goods in the garden have been sold out. " Wang said that when Xiangxi mandarin was difficult to sell last autumn and winter and this spring, the citrus and grapefruit in Changputang village had been sold out before the Spring Festival.

Due to the early start of Changputang fruit marketing and a wide range of roads, the village marketers not only sell the fruit of the village, but also take the initiative to undertake the fruit marketing business of Fenghuang County. More than 90% of the kiwifruit in the county are sold by the Changputang people.

Plan agricultural tourism to open up the road of integration of the first, second and third industries.

The good reputation of the Changputang Village Cooperative has brought tangible benefits to its members. For example, members of kiwifruit professional cooperatives need funds to buy trucks for fruit transportation, and staff of county rural credit cooperatives will agree to grant loans to solve their financial problems as long as they make a phone call to Wang to verify that they need little guarantee.

At present, the annual output value of fruit in Changputang Village is more than 10 million yuan, and there are more than 20 households with an annual net income of more than 100,000 yuan, and 90% of the farmers' net income is more than 50,000 yuan. "in our village, there is no absolute poverty, there is no absolute wealth, there is not much gap between the rich and the poor, and everyone is committed to being well-off." Wang said that in 2016, the whole village took the lead in getting rich in Fenghuang County to achieve a well-off society, and strive to take the lead in achieving a well-off society in the whole county by the end of 2013.

Wang Security led the villagers to plan: on the one hand, we should open up a wide market in the region, so that the fruits of Changputang can be sold farther and sell better; on the other hand, we should have a foothold in long-term industrial planning, lengthen the chain, and enhance the industry's ability to shake off poverty and become rich. Taking advantage of the opportunity of Fenghuang Daxing rural tourism, the villagers of Changputang Village began to take the ecological fruit industry as the carrier, implement the "combination of agriculture and tourism", and integrate and develop the primary, secondary and tertiary industries.

Today, in the ecological orchard of Changputang Village, with the construction of tourist roads, the road to industrial integration is also being opened.
