The newly revised "Forest Food Certification Standard" was released in Beijing by the China Association for the Promotion of Forestry Ecological Development. According to the certification standards, forest food refers to all kinds of edible forest products that follow the principle of sustainable management, come from a good forest environment, and have the characteristics of original ecology, non-pollution, health, safety and so on.

The development of forest food has a broad prospect of "money" in our country. At present, China's forest area has reached 208 million hectares, the forest coverage rate has reached 21.66 percent, and the forest storage volume has reached 15.137 billion cubic meters. These rich forest resources are a huge green treasure house, which contains rich food resources. Taking forest vegetables as an example, some data show that there are about 63 families, 700 species and 192 most common species of forest vegetables in China, including 110species of herbaceous plants, 12 species of lianas and 70 species of woody plants, most of which are wild. Some of them are cultivated artificially, with an average annual production of about 2 billion kg. It is really necessary for us to turn these "mountain goods" into "mountain treasures".

The important characteristics of forest food are original ecology, no pollution, high nutrition, health and safety. To carry out forest food certification and turn the "mountain goods" in the forest into "mountain treasures" can open up new ways of food production, reduce the consumption dependence on basic agricultural products, and enrich our rice bags, vegetable baskets, and fruit plates.

To develop forest food and carry out forest food certification can enrich or even enrich the money bags of some ordinary people. About 300 million people in the world take the forest as their home and earn their living by it. Among the poor people in China, 60% are mainly distributed in mountain areas and forest areas where the ecosystem is very fragile. How to help people in these areas get rid of poverty and embark on a well-off road is a top priority. Build a forest food base and develop forest food. if this way out is well explored, the food resources from the mountains and forests will certainly become the "green wealth" of the people in the mountain and forest areas, so that they can get rid of poverty and increase their income.

However, while the development of forest food is of great significance, we should also pay attention to sustainability and should not ask for food from the forest endlessly. Like forest resources, although forest food resources can be regenerated, their growth cycle is longer. If we excessively collect and grab, the speed of regeneration may not catch up with the speed of collection and grab.

Since forest food comes from the forest, the development of forest food should put an end to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, minimize and prevent the damage to the surface, trees and other ecological environment, and do a good job in timely repair and compensation. For example, the plants with bare roots should be cultivated in time, and the exposed places on the surface should be planted green in time. The development of forest food, in addition to some directly from the forest, most of it should be achieved artificial cultivation, such as artificial cultivation of truffles, can reduce the damage to the natural ecology. In a word, forest food should take the road of sustainable development on the premise of maintaining forest ecological balance and protecting species diversity.
