The couple of farmers in Toksun County grow "milk grapes" and embark on the road to prosperity.

On June 2, the reporter came to the grape greenhouse of Dong Yueqiang and Dong Peimei, farmers in Nanhu Village, Xia Township, Tokson County. The grapes in the greenhouse were already covered with branches, and the couple were busy pruning the grapes.

It is understood that Dong Yueqiang and his wife's greenhouse grape varieties are mainly flame seedless. At present, there are 10 standard greenhouses with 3 varieties of greenhouse grapes, and this year's output is expected to be about 15 tons. Because his grapes do not use any pesticides and chemical fertilizers, mainly use farm manure as base fertilizer, and use milk and a traditional Chinese medicine called Sophora alopecuroides to do flushing and foliar fertilizer, so the quality, taste and sugar content of the grapes he grows are excellent. They are well received and loved by customers, and the price is also higher than other grapes. Now he does not have to go out, and there is a steady stream of door-to-door buyers, often in short supply.

Dong Yueqiang said that he had been growing grapes for more than ten years, but the income was not very good. In 2010, he decided to go outside to see how other people grow grapes. After two years of study, he thought that picking and burying land grapes was more cumbersome. Greenhouse grapes save a lot of effort, and because they are out-of-season, the price is higher than that of land grapes.

In 2012, the couple began to try to grow greenhouse grapes, introducing 12 new varieties from the mainland, together with the 3 varieties they originally planted, and now there are 15 grape varieties. Now each greenhouse can earn 20,000 to 30,000 yuan a year, and in 2015 alone, it earned 200000 yuan. With interplanted milk watermelons, the total income last year was 260000 yuan. The couple, who have tasted the benefits, have expanded their planting area and improved their planting methods this year. This year's grapes matured nearly a month earlier than last year, and the income of milk watermelons alone has now reached more than 100,000 yuan.

"We are both authentic farmers with a low level of education. Our previous income could only maintain the status quo. Watching others become rich one by one, we were also very anxious. Since we planted milk grapes and watermelons in the greenhouse, the quality of life at home has undergone earth-shaking changes. Now we have built a house and bought a new car." Dong Yueqiang's wife Dong Peimei said happily.

In June 2015, Dong Yueqiang and surrounding farmers set up Dong Shuangshuang Fruit Farmers' Professional Cooperative. Since both husband and wife were surnamed Dong, they registered their own trademark "Dong Shuangshuang". In the future, it will lead more farmers to enter the greenhouse to develop facility agriculture and increase farmers' income. Now his cooperative has more than 20 members of ethnic minorities and Han nationality, with more than 40 greenhouse grapes and more than 260 mu of land grapes. Dong Yueqiang and his wife also have 12 mu of land seedless white grapes and 5 mu of 18 new varieties of experimental grapes.
