Walnut is the cash cow for our village to shake off poverty and become rich. The walnut industry in the village has developed so fast and so well, thanks to this' walnut secretary 'who is dedicated to the people. " This year, farmers in Baiyangping Village, Taohe Township, Xichuan County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, ushered in a bumper harvest of walnuts, and everyone was jubilant and gave "likes" to the village secretary one after another.

The "walnut secretary" is Han Yinxiang, 54 years old. He was a worker and a businessman in his early years, and he was an able man with hard work and economic mind. In 2010, Han Yinxiang, a successful entrepreneur, returned to his hometown Baiyangping Village, where he was elected as a deputy to the County people's Congress and served as branch secretary of Baiyangping Village. Han Yinxiang said, "the rich in the individual is not rich, but the rich in the whole village is rich." he must not lead a good life by himself, but he continues to watch the villagers live a life of carrying on their shoulders and facing loess.

It is not easy to get rid of poverty and become rich. Where should we start? After careful thinking, he decided to start with the development of barren hills and slopes that had not yet been utilized in the village. Han Yinxiang led the cadres of the village group to inspect other places, and finally chose to plant thin-shell walnuts.

Just do it. Under the guidance of the technicians of the county forestry department, Han Yinxiang began a small-scale trial. After solving the problems of diseases and insect pests and mastering the planting technology, thin-shell walnut has achieved a bumper harvest, and the household income of trial walnut farmers, such as sesame blossom, is getting higher and higher. It was only then that he used the industrial development funds provided by the county credit union to develop the walnut industry, distributed free walnut seedlings provided by the forestry department to each household, and hired professional and technical personnel to train walnut planting management and protection techniques for the villagers.

Villagers have planted good walnuts, but also to ensure that good walnuts can have a good market. In order to let the walnuts in his hometown walk out of the mountains and really increase the income of the villagers and become rich, in 2012, Han Yinxiang took the lead in setting up a professional walnut cooperative for farmers in the middle route of the South-to-North Water transfer Project, following the business path of "cooperative + base + peasant household" to manage the industry finely. He provides walnut growers with technical guidance and production and marketing services, buys walnuts at prices higher than the market, and cooperatives are responsible for export, thus solving the villagers' worries.

Now, under the leadership of Han Yinxiang, Baiyangping Village has planted 700 mu of thin-shell walnut, built a walnut processing base integrating peeling, drying and sales, and every household has brought a "green rice bowl". Han Yinxiang's working thinking of "economic ecologicalization and ecological economization" won an all-round victory. "the barren slope of Baiyangping Village turned green into a 'Baoshan', and walnuts became a 'golden fruit' for the masses to shake off poverty and become rich. What is more gratifying is that the development of the walnut industry has not only boosted the pockets of every household, but also added a green landscape to the Danjiangkou reservoir area, ensuring the safety of water quality in the south-to-north water diversion. " Han Yinxiang said with relief.

Indeed, the development of walnut industry in Baiyangping Village is like building a "green bank". Liu Xihai, a grower who has experienced great changes in the industry, sighs very much: "Baiyangping Village has finally taken off the hat of a poor village. Relying on the walnut industry, we can 'earn money year after year and enjoy happiness from generation to generation,' and we can also send a bank of fresh water to Beijing and Tianjin!"

Walnut industry has brought good economic, ecological and social benefits to Baiyangping Village, but Han Yinxiang is not satisfied. Looking at the walnut groves on the edge of the village, he was full of confidence: "We have beautiful mountains and rivers here, and in the future I will take the road of the integration of agriculture and tourism, so that the villagers can earn more money and live a sweeter and more beautiful life!"
