The picture shows Liu Kexian (right), an old branch secretary, guiding field management techniques for onion farmers in the field.

"Last year, my family planted 86 mu of green onions with a net income of more than 800,000 yuan. Another 110mu has been planted this year, and if the market is normal, the income should be more than 1 million yuan. The fact that my family can embark on the road of prosperity depends entirely on the technical guidance of the old branch secretary. " On the morning of November 2, Li Aili, a villager from Wangchang Village, Huiting Town, Xiayi County, Henan Province, who was busy in his 100 mu green onion field, spoke of his family's experience of getting rich and said with emotion.

The old secretary in Li Aili's mouth is Liu Kexian, 69-year-old secretary of the village party branch. Liu Kexian was originally a supernumerary cotton technician in Huiting town. in the autumn of 2002, he returned to his hometown Wangchang village as party branch secretary. When he became a village cadre, Lao Liu led the masses to grow cotton to develop the "white economy" and became a voluntary technical adviser to the villagers. He patiently taught the masses how to raise seedlings, how to transplant, and how to prevent and control diseases and insect pests. Although the harvest of planting cotton after wheat harvest is much higher than that of planting corn, because planting cotton is time-consuming and laborious, with the rise of industries such as casting and lighters in Huiting Town, villagers choose to work in enterprises to earn wages, and cotton planting is gradually reduced. Lao Liu's cotton planting technology also gradually lost the opportunity to display his talents.

Over the past few years, seeing that the masses are becoming less and less concerned about farming, Liu Kexian muttered again: through working, the income of the masses is higher, but the output and efficiency of land is declining day by day, and this is not the way. In order to improve land efficiency, large-scale planting and high-efficiency crops should be developed.

In March 2014, Liu Kexian first looked for young farmers Niu Xiang and Li Aili, who can bear hardships and are willing to study, encouraged them to transfer their land and develop large-scale operation, put forward a proposal to plant green onions, and helped him lease more than 40 mu of land to try. In order to ensure success, regardless of his old age, Liu Kexian learned green onion planting techniques by himself in various ways, and then became a good technical consultant for Niu. At that time, the green onions that cattle ideally planted had a bumper harvest, and the income was significantly higher than that of a working couple. In the past two years, the cattle that have tasted the benefits have gradually expanded their planting scale, and their income has increased year by year.

Under the guidance of Liu Kexian and driven by Niu ideal, Wangchang Village has transferred more than 800 mu of land this year, and developed more than 10 large green onion growers. Wangchang Village has also become a local famous specialized green onion planting village.
