On November 16, at a characteristic ostrich breeding base in Chixi Town, Jiaocheng District, a group of ostriches hatched for more than a month were pecking at grass and fodder. The person in charge of the base, Fu Tengfa, was messing with the grass feed for the ostrich with a shovel while carefully checking the feed for impurities.

"not only do these little ostriches look cute, they are also artistic. They will 'dance' when they wake up in the morning, and they will be covered with treasures when they grow up." Fu Tengfa patiently introduced these "special visitors" from Africa. He told reporters that the ostrich is a huge bird in Africa that cannot fly but runs very fast. it is also the largest bird in the world, up to 3 meters high, with black feathers, a long and hairless neck, short wings and long legs. The more than 50 little ostriches in the base were shipped more than a month ago. At present, each of them has more than 20 jin, and the growth information is good. After 8 to 10 months of breeding, they can grow up and take shape.

It is understood that ostriches have the advantages of tolerance to rough feeding and strong adaptability, which is in line with the industrial policy of developing "grain-saving" herbivores, has been strongly supported by the state, and has broad breeding prospects. "We have a lot of chickens and geese raised in rural areas, so we want to find some special breeds to breed. Later, after discussion and investigation with our son, we found that ostrich breeding was relatively extensive, and it was hatched with eggs, so we finally chose to breed ostriches. " Talking about the original intention of ostrich farming, Fu Tengfa said that at present, the supply of ostrich market exceeds demand, and the market in Ningde is basically blank, and it is still a minority market, but he believes that ostrich farming can create more value in the future.

"on the one hand, ostrich breeding can be used for tourists to watch, on the other hand, ostrich eggshells are as hard as ivory, painted and carved, and are of great value after being made into handicrafts. If it goes well, we can also expand the consumer market for ostrich meat and ancillary products. Our idea is to develop ostriches as an industry." Fu Tengfa thinks this is a good project, and when he has more experience in raising ostriches, he also plans to let the villagers around him do it on his behalf, so as to drive more villagers to become rich.
