At present, the state is promoting "changing grain to feed" in some areas to further adjust the planting structure of grain and feed. This year, some of the major grain growers in Rizhao City have worked closely with farms to convert immature corn into forage in the form of whole plant silage, which has become a new way to improve efficiency and increase income.

In a large corn field in Xiqiu Qiyuan Village, Beigou Town, Lanshan District, large machinery leased by Rizhao Hongyu Animal Husbandry is harvesting and crushing all the corn and sending them directly by transport vehicles to the silage pond of the dairy farm.

It is understood that these corn are special silage varieties provided by Hongyu Animal Husbandry after wheat harvest this summer, and the costs of silage harvesting, transportation machinery and labor are also provided by dairy farms. The 220 mu of whole corn silage in Jinmei Agricultural Machinery Cooperative can not only sell more money, but also reduce production costs.

It is understood that Hongyu animal husbandry alone needs nearly 1000 mu of silage straw this year. They also signed contracts with a number of major grain growers in Beigou town in advance to ensure that the silage target was achieved in quality and quantity.

Yang Zengxiang, a technician at Rizhao Hongyu Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd., believes that in this way, they provide adequate and high-quality roughage for dairy cows, saving the time of harvesting and drying and saving costs for large grain growers. Therefore, it can play a win-win role in terms of both economic and social benefits.

The conversion from grain to feed also reduces the environmental pollution caused by open-air burning of straw, reduces the cost of pollution control, and realizes the win-win situation of economic benefit and social and ecological benefit. It is understood that Rizhao City currently has more than 10,000 dairy cows and needs more than 70,000 tons of silage annually. However, at present, the price of corn whole-plant silage harvesting machinery is generally more than 1 million yuan, and all dairy farms rent machinery from other places, so it is easy to delay the harvest. Agricultural machinery cooperation organizations and dairy farming enterprises hope that manufacturers can appropriately reduce prices, and the state can bring this kind of machinery into the scope of subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery, further mobilize the enthusiasm of all parties, promote the healthy development of "grain to feed", and optimize the structure of the planting and breeding industry.
