The Legend of Miyue was very popular for a time, and it is estimated that many fans will remember the part in which the little prince's life was critically damaged by the bees. Do you still remember the antidote that saved his life in the play?

Yes, it is a flower with seven leaves!

Seven leaves and one flower is one of the important components of Yunnan Baiyao. This precious medicinal material, which is not found in the Qin Palace in the Legend of Miyue, is not difficult to find in Shangdong Village, Huojiang Town, Guidong County, Chenzhou City, and it has become a treasure to lead local women out of poverty. Here is a demonstration base for the popularization of rare and valuable medicines. In early November, Today's Women's Daily / Feng.com reporter came to Huojiang Town to explore the story behind Li Fuzhen, the person in charge of the base, who led everyone to get rich.

After the child recovered from her illness, she had the idea of planting medicinal materials.

Roll up your sleeves, put on your rain boots, pick up a hoe, dig the soil, plant seedlings, cultivate the soil. On November 1, when a reporter from Today's Women's newspaper / Feng.com came to the demonstration base of science popularization of rare and precious medicinal materials in Guidong County, Chenzhou City, the county with the highest average elevation in Hunan Province, Li Fuzhen, the person in charge of the base, was patiently explaining to farmers, demonstrating and teaching hand in hand, very busy.

Li Fuzhen, 38, is of medium height, with long black hair scattered over her shoulders and stout fingers. When she saw the reporter, she smiled and busily introduced her "baby".

"this weighs half a jin and can sell for 60 yuan." Li Fuzhen pointed to the rhizome of seven leaves and a flower that had just been dug out of the ground. At present, the science popularization demonstration base of rare and precious medicinal materials and the professional cooperative for planting rare and precious Chinese medicinal materials have more than 500 mu of rare and precious Chinese medicinal materials and more than 20 varieties, mainly planting flowers with seven leaves, Polygonatum and milk ginseng, etc., with a total annual output value of more than 5 million yuan.

However, Li Fuzhen did not think of growing valuable traditional Chinese medicine at first.

At that time, Li Fuzhen tried to start a business many times after graduating from agricultural school, and she also went south to work in Guangdong. When she first got married, because her family was poor, her parents-in-law temporarily "borrowed" the appliances she used when she visited her relatives for the first time. But instead of complaining, Li Fuzhen continues to explore ways to get rich with her husband. She has set up stalls at the fair in Hankou Township, opened clothing stores, non-staple food stores, and food and medicine purchasing stores.

The experience of setting up a stall and opening a shop has accumulated a lot of market experience and network resources for Li Fuzhen. She is keenly aware that in various fairs in Guidong County, there are often many non-local vendors specially driving to buy raw materials of Chinese herbal medicines, while ordinary people sell only sporadically, often in short supply.

Immediately, Li Fuzhen joined the ranks of intermediaries of traditional Chinese medicine. In the process of trading with Guangdong, Hebei, Anhui and other pharmaceutical companies, she also noticed that valuable Chinese herbal medicines were very popular and in great demand. Li Fuzhen immediately came up with the idea: why not plant in a large area and follow the path of one-stop production and marketing?

Li Fuzhen finally made up her mind to plant traditional Chinese medicine because her child got sick once. Li Fuzhen recalls that when the child was more than one year old, he often caught a cold and had a fever, but he didn't get well in many ways. Later, the local rural doctor advised Li Fuzhen to go to the mountain to find a traditional Chinese medicine, Sanye Qing, and rinse it with boiling water for the children to eat. After a period of time, the fever naturally went down. Having seen the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine, "since then, I have made up my mind to start growing Chinese herbal medicines!" Li Fuzhen said.

Yunnan Baiyao throws an olive branch

Li Fuzhen decided to plant a flower with seven leaves of traditional Chinese medicine, not because she read the Legend of Miyue. Li Fuzhen said that in the early years, one of her relatives had snake venom on her feet, and many treatments were ineffective. Some people suggested: "mix seven leaves and one flower with wine, grind it well, and try it."

"sure enough, just rub it on your feet." Li Fuzhen later learned, "A flower with seven leaves has the effects of clearing heat and detoxification, relieving swelling and pain, cooling the liver and calming the liver, and is used for snakebites, falls, and other diseases."

"since then, I have seen the use and value of medicinal materials, and I have found that many medicinal materials are endangered species." Li Fuzhen said frankly, "especially in the mountain areas, it is very inconvenient for residents to seek medical treatment if they are ill." As a result, Li Fuzhen sprouted the idea of planting a flower with seven leaves.

In 2009, Li Fuzhen tried it for the first time. She replaced all her savings of more than 50,000 yuan accumulated over the years with seedlings such as seven-leaf flower tuber and Huangjing tuber. first, she consulted relevant materials to study, and then went to Jiangxi, Guangdong and other places to learn from old medicine farmers, plus her own exploration. she began to try to grow valuable traditional Chinese medicine in her 2 mu vegetable field in Hankou Township, Huojiang Town. At the initial stage of planting, because of the high temperature requirements for seven-leaf and one-branch flower, all the seven-leaf and one-branch tubers purchased by Li Fuzhen at a cost of 200 yuan / kg failed, and they lost all their money in the first year.

Looking back on the past, Li Fuzhen could not help choking up, but she was determined to "get up from wherever she fell." The next year, Li Fuzhen tried to breed a flower with seven leaves, but the seeds were sown, but they did not sprout the following spring. Li Fuzhen, who was anxious, dug up the soil and looked at the seeds of "indifference" and cried anxiously.

"finally, the trial seeds germinated in the third year, and at that time, I realized that one flower with seven leaves had a dormant period for one year." Through more than four years of experience, Li Fuzhen was able to break the dormancy period of one flower with seven leaves by manually controlling temperature and humidity, and successfully achieved annual breeding in 2014, with a survival rate of 99 percent.

In 2015, Li Fuzhen's medicine base also attracted representatives of Yunnan Baiyao Company to visit the site. Li Fuzhen said: "the root of wild seven leaves and one flower is the main medicinal part of Yunnan Baiyao. Due to years of excessive digging, the wild population of this plant is endangered."

In this regard, Li Fuzhen said confidently: "they think my variety is particularly good and want to buy a lot." But at present, the base is still in the stage of development, and the output still needs to be improved. Through cultivation in the future, the output will certainly catch up. "

The villagers planted medicinal materials and lived in small foreign houses.

In addition to being able to cultivate one flower with seven leaves, Li Fuzhen also skillfully mastered the growth habits of other traditional Chinese medicines, creatively using plastic film and cup cover to keep the seedlings warm, and planting Bletilla striata by changing soil for one year. As a result, the seedlings of medicinal materials in Li Fuzhen's base were safe and sound when the low temperature of minus 9 degrees Celsius hit last winter.
