Crossbreeding experiment of Suffolk Sheep

1. Crossbreeding between ram and Mongolian sheep: according to Tang Daolian's report, Inner Mongolia Autonomous region used Suffolk breed ram to cross with Mongolian sheep and fine wool low generation hybrid sheep. Under the condition of grazing mainly in the whole year and slightly supplementary feeding in winter and spring, compared with female Mongolian sheep and fine wool low generation hybrid sheep, Suffolk hybrid lambs grow faster, produce more meat, and are suitable for grazing and fattening in pastoral areas.

2. Crossbreeding between ram and Hu sheep: Qian Jiantong introduced Suffolk breed ram and Hu sheep to carry on the crossbreeding experiment. The results showed that the body weight of Suffolk hybrid sheep was 38.02 ±4.65kg at the age of 6 months, and the average daily weight gain was 285 ±53g from birth to 2 months old. 183 ±21 grams from birth to 6 months old. The pre-slaughter live weight, carcass weight, dressing percentage, carcass net meat percentage and bone-to-meat ratio of 7-month-old lambs were 37.33 ±1.20 kg, 18.45 ±0.64 kg, 48.92 ±2.00%, 74.55 ±2.76% and 3.99, respectively.

3. Hybridization between Suffolk sheep and sheep: Zhang Xiutao et al crossed Suffolk sheep with Ningxia native sheep. The results showed that under the mode of grazing and supplementary feeding, the first generation of Suffolk sheep showed good heterosis and adaptability to semi-arid desert grassland in the eastern foot of Helan Mountain.

4. Crossbreeding between ram and small-tailed Han sheep: Mao Yangyi crossed Suffolk ram with Shanxi small-tailed Han sheep. The body weight of 6-month-old sa × Han generation hybrid ram was 35.20 ±4.80kg, ewe 31.894.29kg, Zhou sa × Han generation hybrid ram weight 54.33 ±5.86kg, ewe 50.12 ±5.64kg.
