A new brittle rice variety of the Chinese Academy of Sciences promotes to solve the problem of returning straw to the field.

The reporter learned from the Hefei Institute of material Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that Kefu Jing 7, a new "brittle stalk" rice variety jointly selected by the Institute of Technology and Biology of the Institute and the local seed industry company, was recently identified by experts organized by Anhui seed Management Station. The expert group believes that this new rice variety is not only easy to crush the straw and suitable for returning to the field, but also has the characteristics of high yield, disease and insect resistance and "brittleness but not falling".

Authoritative experts from agronomy, cultivation, soil, agricultural machinery and other fields recently inspected the experimental demonstration fields of Ke Fujing 7 and Tianxie 1, a common variety, at Longkang Farm in Huaiyuan County, Anhui Province. The two varieties are in the yellow mature stage, the growth is normal, and there are no diseases and insect pests. By comparison, it was found that the straw of Kefujing 7 was more rigid, relatively brittle, and grew neatly in the field without lodging. The field harvest operation using Chery heavy Industry "Guwang" harvester (unloaded crushing device) shows that Kefujing 7 has a good crushing effect, accounting for about 60% of the straw less than 10 cm in length, which is more than 4 times that of Tianxie 1.

Many places are still plagued by the problem of returning straw to the field. Agricultural experts said that because the stubble is tight and the straw is not easy to crush, farmers can only burn it. Experts from the Institute of Technical Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed brittle rice by ion irradiation mutagenesis. In recent years, through extensive screening of rice mutants with different folding resistance, they bred a new variety, Kefu Jing 7, which is not brittle in the early stage and brittle in the mature stage, and carried out field trials in some major agricultural counties.

Farmland planting showed that Kefujing 7 had excellent agronomic production characters, with a yield of about 600 kg per mu under normal cultivation conditions, good resistance to rice blast and good rice quality. Due to the change of lignocellulose in straw, the degradation time of straw was about 1 / 4 shorter than that of normal rice straw. In addition, as a feed for ruminants such as cattle and sheep, crisp rice straw has the advantages of reduced cellulose, high nutritional value, good taste and easy digestion, which broadens the utilization of rice straw.

According to reports, at present, Ke Fujing 7 is participating in the green channel for variety approval by the Anhui Provincial Committee of Agriculture, and is conducting yield comparison tests, disease and pest resistance identification, and production test and demonstration in many places in the province, in order to more comprehensively evaluate the high yield, stress resistance, quality, brittle culm and lodging resistance of the variety, and lay a foundation for entering large-scale production at an early date.
