The whitefly-resistant cotton variety was successfully developed and known to the scientific community as early as 2013, but it was limited to the National Plant Research Institute and not really used until Indian farmland was attacked by whitefly unexpectedly this year.

In the experiment, cotton seeds were injected with an insect-resistant protein extracted from medicinal plants, then cultivated in a greenhouse, and finally a new whitefly-resistant cotton variety was developed.

"We have informed the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludjana of this research, and the university has also shown great interest in fighting new varieties of whitefly cotton." The Indian prime minister said that in addition, the Indian Cotton Research Center in Nagpur had been notified, but they did not respond further.
