In the demonstration base, Y Liangyou 143 is expected to reach a maximum yield of more than 800 kg per mu. Even if not in the demonstration area, farmers according to the general method of planting, the average yield per mu can reach 720 kg-750 kg / mu.

In 2006, Academician Yuan Longping proposed to implement the high-yield project of "planting three yields and four" of super hybrid rice, that is, using the technical achievements of super hybrid rice to produce 4 mu of grain with 3 mu of cultivated land.

Over the past ten years, the expert team headed by Academician Yuan Longping has innovated and overcome difficulties all the way, and the demonstration area of "planting, production and four" has been continuously expanded and achieved remarkable demonstration results. According to statistics, from 2007 to 2015, the "planting, three and four" high-yield project planted a total of 54.719 million mu in Hunan over the past 9 years, increasing rice production by 6.119 billion kg, and the per unit yield increased by 143.1 kg / mu compared with the average per unit area in the five years before the implementation of the project.

Increasing production is the driving force. This year, Hunan's "seed, three-yield and four" high-yield project has increased by more than 1 million mu, with a total planting area of 13 million mu. Yangguao Town is the main production base of Hunan "three-yield and four" project. Under the guidance of Yuan Longping's team, Longhui County will focus on promoting super rice varieties such as Y Liangyou 143, Y Liangyou 2 and Shenliangyou 5814 this year, and the demonstration area of the county's "three crops and four" high-yield project has reached 150000 mu.

"in six days, our medium rice will be harvested." Wang Tiaoshu, a villager of Niuxiangzui Village, said: compared with the use of conventional seeds and conventional methods to grow grain in previous years, the yield of medium rice per mu in the demonstration area of the "planting, three and four" high-yield project is expected to increase by more than 150 kilograms.

"by next year, the 'three production and four' project will strive to extend 15 million mu in Hunan, producing the equivalent of 20 million mu of grain, which is equivalent to saving 5 million mu of arable land for the whole province and increasing by 2 billion kg of grain!" Yuan Longping said confidently: at present, Anhui, Henan, Guangdong, Guangxi and other provinces and regions have also actively followed up the implementation of the "three crops and four" high-yield projects, and it is expected that the country will develop to 60 million mu by 2020, and it is expected to produce grain equivalent to 80 million mu of arable land.
