Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Chinese scientists crack the Secret of vegetable domestication

Wang Xiaowu of Institute of vegetables and Flowers, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, conducted an in-depth study on the domestication of two kinds of Brassica crops, cabbage and cabbage, and revealed the relationship between domestication and subgenomes formed by paleopolyploidy. The results were published online in Natural Genetics (NatureGenetics) on August 15.

In order to solve the above riddle, the team of Wang Xiaowu completed the genome resequencing of the representative materials of cabbage and cabbage, and constructed the population genome variation map of cabbage and cabbage. A large number of genomic signals and related genes of leaf bulb formation and expanded root (stem) domestication selection in Chinese cabbage and cabbage were determined respectively. A large number of variations in the whole genome of Chinese cabbage and cabbage vegetables were obtained, and a number of important genes related to leaf bulb formation and root (stem) expansion of cabbage and cabbage vegetables were identified, which laid an important foundation for speeding up the molecular breeding of cabbage and cabbage vegetables.
