Last Updated: 2024/09/16, Shaanxi Fisheries Research Institute has made a breakthrough in the domestication of Qinling fine scale salmon.

In the middle of July, good news came from Taibai County and Long County Qinling fine scale salmon domestication and breeding bases of Fisheries Research Institute of Shaanxi Province. Breakthrough progress was made in the research on domestication and reproduction of Qinling fine scale salmon carried out by the Institute. 180,000 fish eggs were collected this year and more than 50,000 fry were cultivated. At present, they grow well and realize large-scale breeding, laying a solid foundation for the next step of proliferation and release.

Qinling Salmon is one of the four national protected aquatic wild animals in Shaanxi Province. Qinling fine scale salmon breeding project undertaken by Shaanxi Province Fisheries Research Institute is a key project supported by the Ministry of Agriculture during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan. Over the past 5 years, the project team has successively overcome a series of technical problems in domestication and cultivation of Qinling fine scale salmon parent fish, artificial spawning, seedling incubation, opening bait screening and disease, preliminarily established a set of feasible breeding technical specifications, carried out 2 scientific marking releases successively, and obtained 4 national patents.

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the project team will further strengthen the conservation research on Qinling fine scale salmon from the aspects of genetic diversity and germplasm resources protection by molecular means, accelerate the process of species protection, population recovery and breeding industrialization of Qinling fine scale salmon, so as to implement the protection of aquatic wildlife, promote the development of ecological environment in a virtuous cycle direction, and restore ecological balance.
