These plots are 1000 mu demonstration fields of Linfen Agricultural Technology Promotion Station, which are mainly used to promote a dryland wheat variety called Linfeng 3.

Linfeng 3 was bred systematically after 10 years by crossing Jinmai 47 as female parent and Linfeng 546 as male parent in dryland wheat breeding laboratory of Wheat Research Institute of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The variety was approved by Shanxi Variety approval Committee in August 2004 and named "Linfeng 3" (Linhan 536). The varieties are suitable to be planted in dry land in Jinnan wheat area, Jincheng basin and Huang-Huai wheat area.

Shanxi Province has been dry in ten years, and nearly 50% of the wheat is planted in dry land. Abundant dry land and abundant summer grain has been the consensus of wheat people in Shanxi.

In recent years, although the varieties popularized and planted in dryland wheat are high-yielding, their grain protein content and processing quality can not meet the needs of people's life and food processing industry, so while breeding stress-resistant and high-yield varieties, attention must be paid to the simultaneous selection of high-quality characters.

As a result, drought resistance, high and stable yield has become the direction of breeding new dryland wheat varieties in Shanxi. It is under this background that Linfeng 3 stands out. At present, it is the variety with the largest dryland planting area in Shanxi Province, and the highest year has accounted for more than 60% of the dryland wheat area in the province.

Linfeng 3 belongs to mid-early maturing wheat with cold resistance and freezing tolerance, strong tillering ability and high panicle rate. The plant height is 7580 cm, the ear is oblong, the ear layer is neat, and the number of grains per ear is 3540. Long awn, white shell, white grain, horny, 1000-grain weight 40-45 grams. It has the characteristics of resistance to dry and hot wind, drought resistance, good yellowing and so on. Tested by the quality testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (Beijing), its quality reached the national quality and strong gluten standard (GB/T17892-99), crude protein 15.26%, wet gluten 32.7%, dry gluten 10.9%, sedimentation value 52.2ml, water absorption 64.4%. The variety is obviously better than Jinmai 47, a dryland variety planted in a large area at present.

Identified by the Plant Protection Institute of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Linfeng 3 was moderately susceptible to race 29 and 30, mixed bacteria of stripe rust, mixed bacteria of leaf rust and powdery mildew, and the severity was not high. Identified by the Plant Protection Institute of Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Linfeng 3 was lightly susceptible to stripe rust, light leaf rust, moderate resistance to powdery mildew, low resistance to root rot and immune trematodes.

Its yield performance is also good. From 2002 to 2004, it participated in the regional trial on dry land in southern Shanxi Province. The average yield per mu in 2 years was 307.4 kg, which was 11.6% higher than that of Jinmai 47 (275.4 kg), which was 11.6% higher than that of Jinmai 47 (275.4 kg). The average yield per mu reached 308.8 kg, 13.5% higher than that of Jinmai 47 (272.0 kg). The regional test and production test ranked first among the dry farming varieties, and in the high-yield demonstration of Houma, Quwo and Yuncheng in the south of Shanxi Province, the average yield per mu reached 358.6-468.3 kg.

The variety has compact plant type, uniform branches, low position, thick pod layer, mixed yellow seed, yellow seed rate of more than 90%, good resistance, high yield and high oil content.
