A Japanese research team has announced that they have discovered a gene that controls the yellowing of plant leaves caused by long-term drying. The research results are expected to be used to improve the quality and yield of crops.

A joint research group composed of researcher Kazuo Kawasaki from the Environmental Resources Science Research Center of the Japanese Institute of Science and Chemistry, Professor Kazuko Kawasaki of the Institute of Agronomy and Life Sciences of the University of Tokyo, and Kazuo Nakajima of the International Research Center for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Industry, studied abscisic acid using one of the plant-specific transcription factors NAC (NAM, ATAFandCUC) genes. They used the plant model a href= https://www.zhifujing.org/special/wa/ target=_blank class=infotextkey > frog  to play a large-scale gene family composed of more than 00 NAC genes, and then selected seven genes (SNAC-As) related to stress response from the NAC gene cluster and produced seven variants that destroyed all SNAC-As genes. Through careful analysis, the researchers found the genes related to etiolation of SNAC-As transcription factor group under abscisic acid treatment.
