??? The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ali Cloud Computing Co., Ltd. and Hunan Huazhi Rice Biotechnology Co., Ltd. recently announced the joint promotion of the "Yunzhi Rice Project" in Changsha. 3000 original sequencing data of the green super rice genome (rice genome for short) have been deployed in Aliyun, which means that global researchers can not only download the data for free, but also analyze and mine the data directly in the cloud.

It is understood that this is by far the largest plant genome sequencing project in the world. The project stems from the results of 3000 rice genome projects funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation "cultivating Green Super Rice for Resource-poor areas in Africa and Asia" and the National International Cooperation. According to the agreement, the Yunzhidao Project, based on 3000 rice genome sequencing data, will share data with the whole world free of charge, while the project team will also establish the most comprehensive "Rice functional Genome and breeding Information Database". To provide important information for reference for basic research and breeding applications.

According to Dr. Li Zhikang, Institute of crop Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the overall goal of the project is to cultivate new rice varieties that can be widely applied to the ecological environment of irrigation and rain-fed areas and have various advantageous characteristics, demonstrate and popularize in target countries, and promote the production capacity of hybrid rice seeds. An efficient rice genotype analysis platform was established for rice molecular breeding in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and southwest China.

"3000 rice genomes represent 95 per cent diversity of 250000 seeds, and its importance is that the data obtained from the analysis will provide basic information resources for basic understanding and breeding of rice." Wang Bingbing, information director of Hunan Huazhi Rice Biotechnology Co., Ltd., said that at present, the amount of data obtained by this genome analysis has reached several hundred TB (terabytes). If such large-scale data are processed in a conventional way, individual research teams and scientific research institutions will encounter problems such as download, storage, analysis, and calculation, which are time-consuming and costly. This study will speed up the process of cultivating new varieties with high yield, high quality and wide adaptability, and comprehensively improve the level of rice genome research and molecular breeding in China and the world.
