Ye Jiqing: Life is always poverty alleviation, giving up life and forgetting death

From 8:00 a.m. to 14:00 a.m. on November 23, Ye Jiqing, 57-year-old deputy secretary of the Party branch of Guqidong Village, Shuangfeng Township, Shaodong County, Hunan Province, studied together with the poverty alleviation team stationed in the village. When identifying the target of low-income households in the village, he delayed eating sudden discomfort. The cadres of the poverty alleviation task force rushed him to the hospital for rescue, and died that night due to invalid rescue.

Guqidong Village was formed by the merger of Guqi Village and Qilin Village in October this year. Before that, Ye Jiqing served as party branch secretary of Qilin Village, a provincial poverty-stricken village, for 12 consecutive years. For 12 years, he devoted all his energy to getting rid of poverty and becoming rich in the village.

There are 576 people in Qilin Village, more than 50% of whom are poor. In 2008, Ye Jiqing led 521 villagers at home to harden 1.4 kilometers of village-level roads and build a stone arch bridge by raising funds and labor. At the time of the transition in 2011, the village had a debt of 108,600 yuan. Ye Jiqing paid more than 10,000 yuan of his family's frugal balance. Ye Jiyun, the village director, took out 30,000 yuan, together with the county and rural appropriations, to pay off all the arrears in the village that year. In 2014, Ye Jiqing organized villagers to build a new small reservoir, and in 2015, 880 meters of drainage canal was built. In 2016, 108 new street lamps will be installed, 22 dilapidated houses will be reconstructed, and the village drinking water project with an investment of 410,000 yuan is under intense construction.

Ye Jiqing's family is poor, his wife is in poor health, three of his sons and daughter-in-law suffer from mental illness of varying degrees, one has low labor force, and his eldest daughter-in-law runs away from home. He had to plant 30 mu of rice and some vegetables with his wife, and selling rice and vegetables became the source of income for his family. In 2009, Ye Jiqing began to build his own new house. In order to save money, every brick in seven years was built by himself. So far, the red brick at the bottom has moss, and the house has not been built yet.

Even so, Ye Jiqing still does not forget to help the villagers who are poorer than himself, and does not forget the construction and poverty alleviation of the village. In order to lead the villagers to get rid of poverty and become rich, he tried his best to find ways to achieve practical results. So far, 58 poor households from 82 households in the village have successfully lifted themselves out of poverty. In order to build a convenient bridge on the spillway of the reservoir, he resisted the pressure, carried bedding to sleep on the construction site, kept materials, supervised progress, slept for 37 nights. During Ye Jiqing's tenure, all the work in the village was on the right track: 6 groups of 8 groups in the village hardened their roads to the group, street lamps were lit uniformly, Ye Jiqing's house was still dirt road, and there were no street lamps at the door.
