Original title: Gansu onion price plummeted to reverse the situation may have to wait until next year

According to China Rural Voice "three Rural China" report, this year, for the onion market, is a particularly thrilling year. Since the beginning of the year, the domestic onion market has been particularly depressed, and when everyone was depressed, onions suddenly broke out again, not only avoiding the black October price reduction, but also rising prices in the later period. Such a counterattack surprised many people.

But recently, this wonderful show has once again been reversed. In December, the reporter visited many places and found that the price of onions once again showed a significant decline, and Gansu, Shandong and other places also appeared excessive inventory, inventory overstocking and other phenomena.

In recent December, the price of onions has fallen again with the sudden drop in temperature. In a vegetable wholesale market in Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, the reporter saw that the onion wholesale stalls were particularly deserted compared with the high spirits in October and November. Wholesaler Boss Liu told reporters that in just half a month, the price of onions in Gansu wholesale market has dropped by 25%.

Boss Liu: the money went up not long ago, but the price has slipped again these days. In July, it was 300 to 400 per ton. In October, it was more than 1000 per ton. Now it has slipped to more than 800,900.

Boss Liu told reporters that in December last year, the price of onions should rise slightly because of a shortage of supplies, but this year it is quite the opposite, because not only is there no shortage of onions, but the stock is already full.

Boss Liu: some time ago, our stock of onions was full. This year's stock is larger than that of the previous two years, and there are too many goods coming into the processing plant. Those who go later can only be sold cheaply to them.

The reporter learned that compared with the same period in previous years, the current stock of onions has increased by about 30%. The excessive stock of onions in Gansu Province has not only led to a continuous decline in local prices, but also led to a small reduction in the price of onions in cold storage in other regions. Fortunately, however, there is no oversupply in other regions. Wang Lingru, an onion purchasing agent in Fengxian County, Jiangsu Province.

Wang Lingru: the price has slipped a little bit. Now the price is 1200 per ton of yellow. The stock is low and the goods in our warehouse have been disposed of.

Wang Lingru said that onions in Gansu were sold later than in other regions, and in addition, the acreage of onions increased this year, and the number of onions on the market increased, so they could not be sold out at all in winter, which could only lead to a backlog and a decline in prices.

Wang Lingru: the price of onions in Gansu still has to slide down, because there are many onions in Gansu, and they only come down in September, and we come down in May.

Bian Tingting, an analyst at Zhuochuang, told reporters that the price of onions has undergone a roller coaster change this year, and the main reason behind this change is that there is too much production of onions, coupled with better weather conditions in various major producing areas, and a bumper harvest of onions, so the market supply is more abundant. It is clear that the effect of a sharp increase in onions has not been digested by the end of the year.

Analyst: the planting area of onions in Gansu this year has increased by 30,000 to 40,000 mu compared with last year. At the beginning of the market, the price was not good from July to September because of the large area. At the lowest time, the yellow onion fell to 231 tons. After October, the merchants began to stock, and the price began to rise slowly.

Since onion prices were relatively low when merchants were in stock in early October, buyers began to compete to buy, but no one knew how blind hoarding would have an impact on the later stage. Analyst Bian Tingting believes that now the onion Garg has fallen again, in fact, in line with the change in inventory.

Analyst: at the beginning of October, the price of onions was relatively low and the merchants had a lot of inventory, but at that time they only thought of hoarding, and they did not expect that the inventory of onions would become quite large after October. There is a large increase in inventory, which has a certain impact on the psychology of merchants, so the decline in onion prices is in line with the trend of inventory.

So, how to deal with the large stock of onions in Gansu Province? In this regard, local growers also said that they were very confused. Wholesaler Boss Liu told reporters that onions that could not be sold this year could only be kept until next spring and sold together with new onions from the south. However, this may lead to the return of excessive supply and falling prices in the onion market in February and March next year, repeating the mistakes of this year.

Boss Liu: the goods are gone now, but not as much as before.

Reporter: do we have an unsalable situation now?

Boss Liu: Oh, not yet, but I'm still worried about it. We'll keep the rest and then wait until February and March next year to sell it. In any case, the situation may not be very good next year.

Analyst Bian Tingting predicts that if there is no extreme weather or external factors at a later stage, the embarrassment situation of onions may not be changed by February and March next year. Therefore, stockholders should not sell blindly, but should keep abreast of market information and sell onions in cold storage at the right time.

Analyst: if we look at the current inventory trend, if there is no heavy rain and snow weather and extreme weather, the onion will show a downward trend, which is easy to fall but not to rise.
