Peach: which varieties are popular

China is a big peach growing country, which is rich in variety resources, and its cultivation technology is in the leading position in the world. Therefore, in recent years, although some peach varieties have been introduced from abroad, it has not had a great impact on peach production in China. In China's seedling market last year, the more popular peach varieties are almost all local varieties. So, what kind of peach is more popular at present? Zhang Shubin, a researcher at the Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, answered this question.

Experts in the industry usually divide peaches into three categories: White peach, nectarine and flat peach according to their physical characteristics.

The so-called white peach is what we usually call hairy peach, also known as ordinary peach, this kind of variety is the most common in the market. Now the better early-maturing white peach variety selected recently is Zaomei. Its maturity is in early June, the weight of a single fruit is about 150 grams, the color of the fruit is better, and the sugar content is about 10%. The medium-ripe variety is better than Huayu, which has been approved this year. This variety has a large fruit, hard pulp, resistant to transportation, seedless, the average single fruit weight is more than 200 grams, the maximum fruit weight can reach 350 grams, this variety is now being promoted. There is also a better variety of white peach called Wanmi. This is a late-maturing variety, its fruit is particularly large, the average single fruit weight is more than 250g, relatively high yield, good meat quality, resistant to transportation, is the best variety on the market before the National Day. These varieties are suitable to be planted in the north of the Yangtze River, and can also be cultivated in some areas south of the Yangtze River.

The better early maturing variety in nectarine is Ruiguang 22. The fruit of this variety is red, belongs to the thick red type, the yield is relatively high, is currently one of the most popular varieties. Among the mid-ripe varieties, there is Ruiguang 18. This is a yellow meat variety, which matures in late July. The medium-ripe variety Ruiguang 19 is also popular in this year's market. This is a white-fleshed nectarine, its maturity is slightly later than Ruiguang 18, its yield is high, and its quality is relatively good. It is a variety being vigorously promoted at present. Another popular variety is Ruiguang 28. This is a late-maturing variety, the biggest feature of this variety is a large fruit, the average weight of a single fruit is 250 grams, the largest can reach 350 grams. Among all the nectarine varieties, Ruiguang 28 is the largest one, and it is also the best one among the late ripening nectarine varieties selected in China. Now it seems that nectarines can be cultivated in some peach areas in our country, that is, in the range of 25 ~ 40 degrees north latitude.

The newly selected early-maturing flat peach variety Ruipan 8, which matures in early July, has a hard pulp and is resistant to transportation. Ruili No. 3 matured in mid-late July. This variety has large fruit, high sugar content, hard pulp and resistance to transportation. It is the best variety of medium-ripe flat peach at present. Another is the middle and late ripening variety Ruili No. 4, which matures from the end of July to early August. The fruit of this variety is very large and the pulp is relatively hard. The average weight of a single fruit is 350 grams, and the largest one can reach 500 grams. This variety is resistant to transportation and tastes sweet, but it is a little darker in color and should be bagged during cultivation. These flat peach varieties can be cultivated in all peach areas.
