"garlic you ruthless" is making a comeback, analysts warn: don't expand the seed blindly. "garlic is ruthless" is a buzzword in 2010, when the price of garlic soared, which was more expensive than pork and eggs. Six years later, garlic has made a comeback, and the price of garlic has soared again.

Why is the price of garlic skyrocketing again this year? how long will the price of garlic last? Recently, during a visit to some farmers' markets in Guanghan City, Deyang, Sichuan Province, the reporter found that although there was a large flow of people in the market, the stalls selling garlic were left out in front of the door, and many consumers felt that the price of garlic during this period was on the high side and could only buy less.

Consumer Sister Liu: if anyone eats garlic for fifteen yuan a jin, I don't have to buy it.

Consumer Huang Shijun: rising too fast, more than ten fast money per jin, everyone can not afford to eat.

Vendors said that since the beginning of this year, the price of garlic has been rising, and now it has risen to 20 yuan per jin. Cao Xinan, a garlic vendor:

Cao Xinan, a garlic vendor: the wholesale price of this garlic is relatively high this year, so the selling price on the market is also high.

It is understood that at present, the garlic sold on the market is roughly divided into three kinds according to their size and quality, and the prices are 13 yuan per jin, 15 yuan per jin and 17 yuan per jin, respectively, an increase of more than 30 percent compared with the same period last year.

It is not only in Deyang, Sichuan, but also the soaring price of garlic is a common phenomenon all over the country. In Shandong Province, the main producing area of garlic, prices have also risen to new highs in recent years. Garlic vendors at a farmers' market in Jinan, Shandong Province, told reporters that compared with last year, the price of garlic has increased three or four times:

Garlic vendors: before August 15, eight or seven yuan, and now it is slowly rising, like their larger garlic selling 12 yuan per jin, but only three yuan last year.

The reporter visited and found that ordinary pork costs about 13 yuan per jin, while garlic costs about 11 yuan per catty, and the price of garlic is almost catching up with pork. According to data released by the National Development and Reform Commission, the wholesale and retail prices of garlic were 7.24 yuan and 7.89 yuan per catty respectively in October 2016, up 90% and 67.9% from the same period last year.

Why did the price of garlic rise so much? Mao Shengyong, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said there are two reasons for the rise in garlic prices:

Mao Shengyong: the rise in the price of garlic is mainly due to two reasons: one is that due to the weather and the reduction of planting area, the supply or output of garlic is reduced, resulting in an imbalance between supply and demand and pushing up the price of garlic. Second, it does not rule out the speculation of some funds in it. But as you can see, this is a short-term price rise, and it is the price rise of individual commodities, which does not constitute inflation.

Cui Xiaona, an analyst at Zhuochuang Consulting, told reporters that garlic production has decreased this year, while the wait-and-see sales of depositors have aggravated the phased imbalance between supply and demand. In addition, garlic has gradually become an investment product in addition to food. Garlic merchants see the opportunity to make money, so the enthusiasm for acquisition is high, which once again drives up the price of garlic.

Cui Xiaona: garlic as an investment product, people who saved garlic last year all made money, and they have money in their hands. This year, on the basis of reduced garlic production, they feel that there is less supply and there is a chance to make money, so it is very popular and prosperous. Especially many people have harvested in the new production, which has also led to a rise in the price of garlic.

Li Pumin, secretary general of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that the price authorities will pay close attention to garlic prices and will quickly investigate and deal with any acts of driving up prices:

Li Pumin: recently, the main garlic producing areas of Shandong, Henan and Jiangsu provinces have been deployed to carry out garlic price inspection, to warn and warn warehouses and wholesalers of a certain scale, and to conduct a thorough investigation on garlic cold storage, wholesale and other links. It is found that price violations such as collusion and bid up will be investigated and dealt with quickly.

Liu Tong, spokesman for Beijing Xinfadi Wholesale Market, predicts that with the listing of new garlic next year, the price of garlic will gradually fall:

Liu Tong: the southern producing area is Dali, Yunnan. The sown area of garlic that can be put on the market in February next year will be expanded, so if there is no abnormal weather, the garlic in Yunnan Dali will have a bumper harvest in February next year. After the new garlic comes up, it will be very difficult for the prices of old garlic in the north to continue to rise, and it is possible to keep the price of old garlic down.

Cui Xiaona, an analyst at Zhuochuang Information, also believes that if there is good weather and a large harvest of garlic next year, then prices will certainly fall sharply, so I suggest garlic farmers to plan their planting area reasonably and not to expand their planting blindly.

Cui Xiaona: next year, we are not sure about the weather factors. if there is extremely cold weather, it may affect sales, and the price of garlic will remain high next year, but if the weather is favorable, the output of garlic next year will certainly be higher than that of this year. When the planting area increases and the output increases, the price of garlic is likely to fall sharply next year, so that the profit space of ordinary people will be relatively small. There will also be situations where cheap vegetables hurt farmers. Therefore, it is suggested that ordinary people should not plant a large number of plants just because the price is too high. They must know more about the market and set the planting area within this reasonable range.
