A common Chinese proverb is "never too old to learn". As long as you are willing to learn, it is never too late to start. In Licheng District, a farmer took a college degree from a self-taught college course and planted 100 mu of fruit lotus root.

After graduating from high school, Liu Decheng went out to work and became a long-distance truck driver. After traveling north and south for more than a decade, he fell in love with the beauty of 10,000 mu of lotus ponds in the south and was determined to "transplant" Hubei fruit lotus root, which combines landscape, vegetables and fruits, back to Jinan. To this end, he first trained himself into a "high achiever" farmer, studying scientific farming everywhere.

On Sunday, January 22, at the Baoshan lotus root research and development base and Baiquan fruit lotus root family farm in Qujia Village, Baoshan Street Office, Licheng District, several farmers hired by Liu Decheng were digging lotus roots in the endless lotus root pond. the man who used to go out to "run the rivers and lakes" stood on the side of the road next to the base, guarding a pile of freshly baked lotus roots. There is no need to hawk, pedestrians from north and south will stop when they see it.

An old man came from a neighboring village on an electric tricycle and picked up the lotus root very critically and examined it carefully. "it's too expensive." "the handle of the lotus root must be taken off." "is it really crisp and slag-free? Does it really smell like fruit? " …… After some "picking", he bought dozens of jin readily. Before leaving, he smiled and said, "I used to grow lotus root, so no one can fool me." I've seen more than a dozen lotus root sellers today, and this one is good. "

The reporter saw that water had been released from the lotus root pond and was covered with a layer of antifreeze film. Liu Decheng said: "if there is water in the lotus root pond, directly use a water gun to wash away the mud. It is easy to dig, the lotus root dug out is still clean, almost no injury, but it is not easy to preserve, easy to 'wilt'. After releasing the water, the lotus root dug out is slightly muddy, which is not only easy to preserve, but also can maintain the fruit-like taste. "

In Liu Decheng's family, he keeps about 10 certificates of training courses on various scientific farming knowledge, each of which he is an excellent student. A few years ago, while taking a part-time job, he took a college course and got a college degree. Today, he has grown into an expert with all kinds of scientific farming skills.

Liu Decheng told reporters that he was not highly educated. After graduating from high school, he went to work in the south and became a long-distance truck driver for more than a decade. During this period, he drove through Hubei many times and was attracted by the ten thousand mu lotus ponds that can be seen everywhere. A few years ago, Liu Decheng returned to his hometown and wanted to be a scientific farmer. As soon as he heard that a training course on scientific farming was being held, he would run over and sign up. At the end of 2015, in order to take the lead for the villagers, he contracted about 100 mu of farmland through land transfer. These farmland are located in Baiquan where the spring water flows through, there are plenty of water sources, and the beauty of ten thousand mu of lotus ponds emerges before his eyes. Liu Decheng then hired experts from the Academy of Sciences as consultants, and specially went to Hubei to study lotus root planting techniques, and successfully introduced Hubei fruit lotus root.

In 2016, when the lotus root seedlings were planted, Liu Decheng used his knowledge to apply organic fertilizer frequently to irrigate the water in Baiquan. "this is the first time to harvest lotus root. Unexpectedly, as soon as it was put into the market, it was quite recognized and 300 cases could be sold at the head of the village every day."

In the next step, Liu Decheng also wants to develop lotus bonsai, lotus root farm music and spring outings, and use scientific and technological knowledge and scientific planning to develop "Baiquan fruit lotus root", a subdivided field in the lotus root mass market. through the demonstration to lead the villagers to engage in characteristic planting and breeding.
