Lin Haidong, a former poor household in Oriental Wangwai Village, is now in charge of the cooperative and leads the villagers to raise porcupine.

Become an "expert" and become a "housekeeper" on the way to wealth.

On January 20, Lin Haidong, chairman of Wangwai porcupine breeding professional cooperative in Dongfang overseas Chinese Economic Zone, introduced the situation of porcupine breeding to reporters.

An example of poverty alleviation

"keeping porcupine should be watched 24 hours a day to prevent them from fighting, and the hygiene in the pen must be kept clean." January 20 is the Lunar New year. Lin Haidong came to the pig house at the west end of the village early in the morning to clean up and explain to poor families how to raise porcupine. He is like half an expert. Over the past year, he has not only succeeded in getting rid of poverty with his own hard-working hands, but has also been elected chairman of the porcupine farming cooperative and a leader in the way for villagers to get rich.

The owner of Lin Hai is in Wangwai Village, the most remote village in Dongfang overseas Chinese Economic Zone. In 2016, Dongfang City included Wangwai Village as a whole village to promote poverty alleviation, helping 120 poor families to develop special industries such as raising chickens and growing melons and vegetables. Lin Haidong, who is interested in farming, began to concentrate on the development of the industry.

In May last year, the help unit handed out 320 chicken saplings. He insisted on raising the chickens in the mango forest in the village every day in the morning and in the dark, so that they could exercise more and eat worms. Three months later, his "mango chicken" sold out, making a profit of more than 15000 yuan. After earning the "first bucket of gold", Lin Haidong found his sister to partner again and again, went to the bank again and again, applied for a small loan of 40,000 yuan, and set up a shed in front of his home to raise more than 70 pigs. After the pigs came out of the pen, they made a net profit of 21000 yuan.

Lin Haidong always listens most carefully to the poverty alleviation TV night school every Friday. It was said on television that poverty alleviation industries should be combined in the long and short term, and he was inspired to integrate the land to expand the planting scale, planting 25 mu of pumpkin, 13 mu of eggplant and 4 mu of pepper, and reaped a bumper harvest.

There is an example of poverty alleviation in the village, and the poor families admire it very much. In October last year, the porcupine farming project in Wangwai Village blossomed, and the government helped build more than 1000 square meters of standardized pig houses and purchased 714 porcine pups, ready to carry out centralized farming in accordance with the model of "government + cooperative + poor households". Who will be the chairman of this co-operative and lead everyone out of poverty? At the democratic consultative council, 120 poor families unanimously raised their hands and elected Lin Haidong.

"Lin Haidong is a capable man in farming, and we believe in him." Poor households can only speak clearly. It is based on this trust that while Lin Haidong is busy growing melons and vegetables and raising chickens at home, he is in charge of the affairs of the cooperative and leads poor families to raise porcupine. Poor families do not know how to raise pigs, so he invites technicians to the village for training. Raising porcupine with pure feed costs a lot. He drives tricycles to nearby villages to buy pumpkins and corn as staple food for porcupines. Thanks to the efforts of Lin Haidong and other poor families, this batch of porcupine has grown from three or four jin each just bought to more than 20 jin now. In September this year, it is expected to give birth to more than 600 cubs, which, excluding costs, will bring a profit of 450000 yuan for poor households.

"if the government gives us a hand, we have to move ourselves." This is what Lin Haidong said to everyone.

At the beginning of the new year, not far from the porcupine house, another 30 mu of open land was piled out. "this is a new project for our cooperative. This year, the government has supported the expansion of poverty alleviation industries by building chicken farms and five-legged pig farms here." Looking at the "new battlefield," Lin Haidong is full of confidence.
