In the Azhidazhai Group of Mopi Village, Pingdian Township, Xinping County, Yuxi City, there is a big blue peacock farmer Yu Guangzong. After 8 years of painstaking practice, he has mastered a set of techniques for breeding peacocks and set up his own breeding base, and the scale has been gradually expanded. Good economic benefits have been obtained.

Yu Guangzong's blue peacock breeding base is located in a small mountain bag opposite Azhi Dazhai in Mopi Village. The author saw that the base covering an area of more than 1000 square meters was divided into six peacock nests, and each blue peacock was walking leisurely, or perched on a wooden frame, or spread its wings and danced, and the colorful feathers shone beautifully in the sun.

"I have more than 400 blue peacocks here." According to Yu Guangzong, there are two kinds of peacocks: green peacock and blue peacock. Green peacocks belong to the national first-class protected animals, artificial breeding and sale are prohibited. He raises blue peacocks, a special breeding project promoted by the forestry department.

In 2008, Yu Guangzong bought more than 10 blue peacocks in Kunming and began to raise them. At first, the villagers were surprised and few believed that he could succeed. Yu Guangzong said that no matter the family members or the people around them are opposed, because this special farming is not like raising pigs and chickens, it has certain risks both in terms of technology and sales.

At the beginning of breeding, some peacocks died due to lack of experience. Later, through consultation and study, Yu Guangzong gradually mastered the peacock's living habits, feeding rules and epidemic prevention skills, and the peacock grew up healthily day by day. As the farming technology gradually matured, Yu Guangzong also upgraded from a layman to an expert in aquaculture.

Yu Guangzong said that each female peacock lays about 30 eggs a year, mainly using eggs to hatch young peacocks. In order to ensure survival, Yu Guangzong specially spent a lot of money on an intelligent incubator to control the temperature and humidity at any time. Peacock eggs are much larger than eggs, and their incubation cycle is 27 to 28 days, before being transferred to the brooding room for brooding.

Talking about the future development, Yu Guangzong said confidently: "the economic income of breeding peacocks reached more than 100,000 yuan in 2016, but I think there is still room for development. Next, relying on the strong support of the party committee and government of Pingdian Township and the ecological and beautiful scenery of the village, I plan to double the breeding area, increase the number of peacocks to more than 1000, and achieve an annual income of more than 200,000 yuan."
