Xilin County, Guangxi: planting fruits to break the Road to Wealth
In March, Yangchun walked into Gaowei Village, Xiping City, Xilin County, Guangxi. the hillsides around were covered with sugar orange trees, and the orchards were full of toil. Over the past few years, Gaowei Village has set off an upsurge of planting fruit, and many farmers have their own orchards and have embarked on the road to prosperity relying on planting fruits. Cai Hualiang, deputy director of the villagers' committee, has guided the villagers to do this.
Cai Hualiang is a native of Pingxintun, Gaowei Village. In 2002, the Xilin county party committee and county government introduced sugar tangerines from the fourth Association of Guangdong. Cai Hualiang planted 6 mu of sugar oranges on his hillside with the spirit of "newborn calves are not afraid of tigers." Many people have doubts about this beforehand. In 2005, the Agricultural Bureau of Xilin County organized fruit farmers to go to Wuzhou City for sugar orange planting technical training, Cai Hualiang actively signed up to participate. In a short period of 8 days in Wuzhou, he gradually mastered a complete set of techniques for planting sugar tangerines, from digging holes, selecting seedlings, planting, management and protection to pest control. With technical support, Cai Hualiang stepped on it in his heart. In 2006, he planted 6 mu of sugar tangerines with an initial output of 15000 jin.
Cai Hualiang became rich after planting fruit and spread a good story in the local area. In order to help the villagers get rich together, he was determined to guide them to plant sugar oranges. Under Cai Hualiang's demonstration, Gaowei Village planted more than 1200 mu of fine sugar tangerines, with each household exceeding 5 mu. In order to meet the needs of the market and put fruit planting on the road of standardization and industrialization, in 2014, Cai Hualiang established a professional cooperative for farmers producing and selling sugar tangerines in Xilin County, which provides guidance from fruit seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, and so on. When they encounter problems in production, Cai Hualiang helps them solve the problem of marketing. Over the years, local sugar oranges have often been snapped up by the market.
