Wang Guangwei planted the yew to harvest the fruit of getting rich.
"I have made yew branches into health care pillows and sent them to professional institutions in the United States for testing, and once they meet the standards, they can be put into production to enter the American market." A few days ago, the reporter received a call from Wang Guangwei, a grower in Yaozhuang Town, saying that the yew he planted had been deeply processed and made into a series of products such as health food, cups, chopsticks, and so on, and now he has developed a new product, the yew series of health pillows. The reporter is full of curiosity about this.
Wang Guangwei is the only yew grower in our county. In 2009, he transferred 230 mu of land to grow yew in Jinxing Village, Yaozhuang Town. Recently, the reporter came to Wang Guangwei's yew planting base and saw that he was chopping and grinding the sun-dried yew branches with a cutter. "these are the raw materials for making yew health pillows." With the development of more and more yew products, Wang Guangwei is more and more confident about the prospect of planting yew. "it is hoped that greater economic benefits can be achieved through diversified development." When Wang Guangwei talked about his favorite yew industry, his face suddenly bloomed with confidence.
Taxus mairei is listed as a rare and endangered plant in China. Since the end of 1990s, some people have begun to plant yew in China. Taxus is also known as a "cash cow" because of its high content of paclitaxel, a natural anticancer drug in its branches, roots and bark. Wang Guangwei, 51, a native of Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province, went to Shanghai with his fellow villagers in 2000. "I made meals and sold clothes, but later I failed for a variety of reasons. just when I was confused about the future, my relatives came to me and wanted to start a business with me." Wang Guangwei said he first heard and saw the yew in 2009.
Under the introduction of friends, Wang Guangwei and his relatives built the yew base in Jinxing Village. "to choose here is to take a fancy to its geographical location, which is close to Shanghai, and the transportation is convenient." The growth cycle of the yew is longer and the effect is slower. It takes at least seven or eight years to grow from the seedlings to the mature trees that can extract paclitaxel. This undoubtedly increases the financial pressure for growers, and at the same time, growers need to be patient enough. "over the past few years, I have invested nearly 9 million yuan, and many people have jokingly called me 'crazy', but I have my own plan: cultivate yew seedlings by myself, and make the industry bigger and stronger."
Wang Guangwei already has a business book on the yew: "although it takes seven or eight years for the yew to grow to produce economic benefits, as long as it starts to sell to the market, it will make money every year after that." We have found a market in Yunnan, where we need to buy a large number of yew branches to extract paclitaxel. " He said that as long as the management is well protected, each yew can cut off nearly 20 kilograms of branches, branches with high taxol content can sell for nearly 16 yuan per kilogram, and branches with low taxol content can sell for nearly 5 yuan per kilogram.
"you see, a total of more than 10,000 seedlings of this newly added yew are cultivated by me, and they are all growing well." Wang Guangwei pointed to the yew on the northwest side of the base and introduced it. Wang Guangwei learned the knowledge of pruning and styling from the Internet and books, transplanting, pruning and styling the yew trees in the field and turning them into sought-after bonsai.
"recently, I have been trying hydroponic yew, which is more suitable for family planting." Wang Guangwei said that the variety of yew products has attracted businessmen from all over the country to order. "Yew fruit bubble wine has found merchants in Yunnan, green trees, bonsai also have a market, health pillow will also be put into production." Wang Guangwei also has a long-term plan to combine his hundreds of mu of yew forest with the surrounding beautiful rural scenery to develop rural tourism and expand his agricultural territory.
