Under the fruitful loquat tree, groups of native chickens are free to find food, chase and play, each with strong physique and bright feathers, adding a different landscape to the silent orchard. Recently, the author saw this scene in Baisha Loquat Science Popularization demonstration Base in the Agricultural Comprehensive Development Project area of Heixi Town, Qianjiang District, Chongqing.

Baisha loquat popular science base.

In 2010, Wang Hongxia and her husband Zhou Qin introduced Baisha loquat from Zhejiang to plant on 200 mu of land in Reform Village. In order to improve the comprehensive benefit of the orchard, in 2015, she built 30 layered ecological chicken sheds in the loquat forest, bought 3000 chicken seedlings from Pengdong Township, Qianjiang District, and put them into the loquat forest and became a "chicken commander".

"the loquat forest has a good ecology and is rich in food, and the free-range native chicken is absolutely original." Wang Hongxia said that in order to make the native chicken more "earthy," she adopted the method of "putting it together." during the day, the native chicken was released in the loquat forest, foraging for insects, grass, and drinking mountain water. when night falls, the native chicken will consciously return to the henhouse to have a rest.

"now people attach great importance to health and health care, especially in diet, green and pollution-free 'native products' from rural areas are very popular." Wang Hongxia said that native chickens can sell for 25 yuan per jin and native eggs for 2 yuan each, and they sell very well. At the end of 2015, the income from loquat, native chicken and eggs was 200000 yuan.

"chickens eat insects to protect the forest, and feces fattening the woodland. The native chicken is free-range, active, sturdy, breathing fresh air, strong immunity and more delicious meat. Baisha loquat meat is thick and juicy, tender meat, deeply loved by the public. In 2016, 3000 people were received for picking, including 1000 native chickens and 180000 green eggs, with an annual output value of 4 million yuan. At the same time, it also transferred 300 mu of land, and led more than 30 farmers around to open the income-increasing model of loquat chickens under the forest. " Looking at the mature loquat, Wang Hongxia said with a smile.
