Zhu Banghui, 42, is the deputy director of Jiangsu (Wujin) Rice Research Institute and has been engaged in rice genetics and breeding for 17 years.

Basically, Hainan is used as the southern breeding base for rice breeding in China. Every November, as soon as the rice in Changzhou is harvested and the breeding materials are sorted out, Zhu Banghui immediately flies to the breeding base in Hainan, and sometimes he can't even come back for the Spring Festival. In April every year, Changzhou begins to raise seedlings, and then hurriedly flies back. Half of a year in Hainan and half of his time in Changzhou is the daily state of his work, not a year or two, but for many years.

It is normal for a variety to go through ten or eight years from breeding to breeding and approval, and there is no room for any mistakes. Whether in Changzhou or in Nanfan base, he spends most of his time in rice fields: walking in the fields with a record book in hand every day, recording the characteristics of intermediate materials in breeding, preparing for cross, seed selection and harvest, rice growing season, it is the time of year when the temperature and humidity is high in Changzhou, walking around the field, clothes wet and dry, that is not a thing, as for mosquito bites It's a common occurrence.

In the hands of Zhu Banghui, excellent rice varieties stand out one by one. Since joining the work, Zhu Banghui has bred 11 varieties, including Wanjing 9707, Wuxiangjing 19, Wuyunjing 21, Wuyunjing 23, and Wuyunjing 24, with a total extension area of more than 60 million mu and an increase of about 5 billion yuan in social and economic benefits. Among them, Wuyunjing 21 broke through the bottleneck that the "Wu" prefix variety was not resistant to stripe blight, and was awarded a high-tech variety by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Jiangsu Province in 2009. since it was approved, it has been the main variety in Huaibei region. He also participated in the breeding of Wuyunjing 30 and Yinyu 2084, among which Wuyunjing 30 was the only japonica rice variety that won the first prize in the first Jiangsu high-quality rice taste evaluation, and developed new soft rice varieties such as Ruanyu No. 1 and Giant embryo Rice.

The Golden Cup and Silver Cup is not as good as the word of mouth of the common people. Rice breeding is to bring the best varieties and the most advanced technology to farmers to improve yield, quality and income. While doing a good job in breeding, Zhu Banghui also actively did a good job in agricultural technology extension services in the village, helped farmers solve problems in the fields, and sent new varieties and new technologies to villages and households, effectively improving farmers' ability to cultivate fields scientifically.
