Common insect pests in sericulture
Sericulture many people pay more attention to mulberry leaves and silkworm disease prevention, but ignore the prevention of insect pests, in fact, the threat of insect pests is not small. If some farmers often find that they have fewer silkworms and can not find the cause, then it is very likely that it is caused by insect pests, because the worms have eaten the silkworms. Let's learn about some common insect pests.
1. Ants
Ants are neglected for sericulturists, but this is actually a great threat. Once the ants successfully carry the first silkworm, more ants will follow, especially during the larval period, pay more attention to the ants in the breeding room. Some farmers do not do a good job in this respect, and there are many ant colonies nearby, resulting in heavy losses. At the initial stage, it is best to check whether there is an ant colony nearby, and then use drugs to prevent it, especially some of the more secret openings, which should focus on prevention.
2. Mice
In fact, mice also eat silkworms, and can eat very well, silkworms are a delicious dish for them. Because the mouse is also a gregarious animal, the action is relatively fast, once the mouse thinks that the silkworm here is very convenient to steal food, then it is a disaster. A mouse can eat dozens of silkworms in one night, and it is terrifying. The number of mice is so large that no one can bear it, so the prevention of rodent damage is very important. Farmers must carry out anti-rodent treatment in advance to avoid unnecessary losses.
3. Flies
The threat of flies as a pest is generally relatively rare, mostly in the case of open-air farming, but it is very likely to be a widespread infection. The principle is that the larvae of the fly sneak into the silkworm, latent development, and then slowly absorb the nutrition of the silkworm, and finally lead to the death of the silkworm. If the silkworm is found to be rotten or withered and has holes in its body, it is most likely caused by this. Sericulturists must take the best precautions to avoid flies coming into direct contact with silkworms and covering the top with gauze, which is both breathable and safe.
4. Toad
This is also a relatively easy harm in rural areas. Some soil toads will go into them along some loopholes in the houses, or hide in the holes in the walls, and come out at night to look for food. On the other hand, insects are the favorite of toads, and slowly wriggling silkworms like silkworms are delicious for toads. If no one cares, a slightly larger toad can eat 30 young silkworms a night. Over time, everyone will know how serious the loss is. So the prevention of toads is also very important.
These are some of the insect pests that are easy to encounter when raising silkworms, and these pests all pose a mass threat. Therefore, the daily sericulture can not only pay attention to the threat of diseases, pests are also terrifying.
