Because the sowing time of potato in open field in autumn is in August, when the potato is cut into pieces, the situation of rotten potato and dead seedling is serious. Therefore, the whole potato should be sowed in the open field in autumn.

When sowing the whole potato, we should select the potato with no injury, no disease, no crack, bright skin color and moderate size. Because the emergence of whole potato is slower than that of cut potato, and the seed potato is still dormant in autumn sowing (except for some varieties with very short dormancy period, such as Fengshoubai, Zhengshu 3, etc.). Therefore, budding treatment should be carried out before sowing. There are two methods of sprouting: one is the medicament. The treatment with gibberellin and other chemicals can break the dormancy of potatoes and ensure that the seedlings are strong. For general varieties, five days before sowing, soak them with gibberellin solution of 5 × 10-6 for 5 minutes, then remove them and bury them in wet sand for 5 days to accelerate germination. The buds can be sown with a length of 1 cm to 2 cm. The varieties with long dormant period were soaked in 10 × 10 ~ (- 6) gibberellin solution for 20 minutes for 30 minutes, and then buried in wet sand to accelerate germination. Second, the sand bed accelerates sprouting. If it's too late, you can also use a sand bed to sprout about 25 days before sowing. The method is to soak seed potatoes with clean well water, then spread 5 cm thick wet sand on the ground, spread soaked seed potatoes on them, cover seed potatoes with wet sand 5 cm thick and 6 cm thick, spray water once every 2 days, and the buds can be sowed about 2 cm long. It is necessary to strictly prevent sand dampness from getting too bad.

After potato sprouting treatment, special attention should be paid to sowing at the right time. Sowing too early, hot and rainy, easily rotten potatoes, lack of seedlings; while too late, the growth period is insufficient and the yield is reduced. In addition, autumn potato sowing should be carried out before 10:00 and after 3 pm on a sunny day.
