Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The quality of home-cultivated tulips is not as good as those sold in the flower market, usually showing short stems and small flowers. the main reasons are as follows: first, the varieties with different genetic basis have great differences in stem length and flower diameter. Second, the varieties were degraded by continuous cultivation for 2 to 3 years, and there were great differences between the cultivation environment and the ecological conditions of the origin of tulips, especially the high temperature in summer, unreasonable fertilization during the growing period and other factors, which were easy to cause the degradation of seed bulbs. General commercial seed bulbs can only be planted for 1 to 2 years without taking corresponding rejuvenation measures.

The quality of tulips cultivated in families is not as good as that sold in flower markets. They usually have short stems and small flowers. The main reasons are as follows: firstly, the length of flower stems and the size of flower diameter vary greatly with different genetic basis varieties; 2) continuous cultivation for 2 to 3 years makes varieties degenerate, because the cultivation environment is quite different from the ecological conditions of the original place of tulip, especially the factors such as high summer temperature and unreasonable fertilization in the growth period, which are easy to cause the degradation of bulbs. General commercial bulbs can only be planted for 1 to 2 years without corresponding rejuvenation measures; Third, the storage temperature of the bulb is too high, resulting in a large amount of internal nutrition consumption, flower bud differentiation and no corresponding temperature and humidity (i.e. cool and dry) conditions, which is the most fundamental reason for the short stem and small flower of tulip. The potted tulips sold in the market are multi-purpose disposable bulbs, which are large bulbs with sufficient nutrient accumulation. In addition, proper water and fertilizer management must be leafy, tall and large flowers.

Tulip originated in Iran and Turkey and other alpine areas, belonging to the Mediterranean climate flowers, adapted to wet and cold winter, cool summer, slightly dry ecological environment. It dormancy in summer, autumn and winter rooting and germination of new buds, but do not emerge, need to winter low temperature, to the next February temperature of 5℃ to 20℃, flower bud differentiation temperature of 20℃ to 25℃, the highest can not exceed 28℃; root injury can not regenerate, so tulip plants avoid transplanting.

Home potting can be done in late September or early October. Potted appropriate selection of dwarf varieties, available deep tube pots, in order to facilitate the development of its roots. The pot soil can be mixed evenly with 7 parts of moldy leaf soil, 2 parts of sand and 1 part of decomposed cake fertilizer or manure; before planting, a layer of brown membranous epidermis outside the bulb is torn off, and then sterilized with 0.1% carbendazim or zinc solution before planting into the pot; Generally, a flowerpot with a diameter of 6 inches can be planted with 2 to 3 commercial seed balls with a diameter of more than 3 cm, then watered thoroughly, placed in a place with sufficient light, watered immediately after the pot soil is dry, but not too much, to prevent the pot soil from being too wet to cause the seed ball to rot; moved into a cold room before freezing, and kept at room temperature above 0℃. Buds can sprout from February to March in early spring, and then move them to outdoor sunshine, apply thin cake fertilizer water every 10 days, apply quick-acting phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once or twice before budding to flowering, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, which is not only conducive to the breeding and opening of flowers, but also has a great impact on seed retention; keep the pot soil moist during the growth period, and bloom in April. If it is to promote its flowering during New Year's Day or Spring Festival, the potted commodity ball can be placed outdoors in a cool place, the pot soil is kept dry and not wet until 1 month to 2 months before the planned flowering period, and then moved to a temperature condition of 5℃ to 7℃, such as plastic shed, and then moved to a place with a temperature of 15℃ to 18℃ and sufficient light, and water and fertilizer can be applied to bloom as scheduled.

For the plants which are prepared to retain seed bulbs, pluck them together with flower buds before flower buds bloom, and then apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once every half month, which can not only reduce the nutrient consumption of plants, but also promote the seed bulbs to grow large and many, so as to meet the standard of seed bulbs; When the stems and leaves begin to wither, stop watering and fertilizing, and when about 1/2 of the stems and leaves wither, dig out the bulbs, disinfect them after spreading them slightly, disinfect them with 0.1% potassium permanganate or carbendazim for 20 minutes, spread them in baskets after drying slightly, and store them in dry and cool places; maintain the room temperature not higher than 20℃ to 25℃ during storage, check frequently and eliminate the diseased bulbs for destruction; At the beginning of September, the bulbs stored can complete flower bud differentiation. At this time, they can be transferred to cold room for low temperature treatment. The former stage can be maintained at 9℃, and the latter month can be transferred to 5℃. The treatment lasts for 60 to 80 days to ensure that they can bloom normally. After low temperature treatment of bulbs, timely promotion culture, from planting to flowering generally only 50 to 60 days.
