Size: total body length 40-45cm

Origin: Origin in south of central Europe

Eating habits: vegetative

Although they are collectively referred to as rabbits, they are generally sold as noodles made from wild burrow rabbits. There are many varieties, and what the public is most familiar with is the Japanese white species, which is white all over the body. In recent years, the number of rabbits with other coat colors on the market has gradually increased and is also very popular. There is also a breed called Mini Rabbit, which is not really a Mini Rabbit, but a cross between Dutch, Belgian and other small rabbits and white Japanese rabbits. What you see in the shop are young rabbits, which are bound to get bigger when you grow up. Only when the full-length 30cm is about the full-length of the pure Belgian species can it be called a mini rabbit.

Feeding method

Food, rabbits are almost complete herbivores. Very fond of eating carrots, potatoes, radish leaves and other vegetables, as well as Bo Gongying, plantain and so on. The Japanese market recently launched a granular artificial feed for rabbits, which has the advantages of balanced nutrition and good hardness for teeth. Artificial feed can be used as a staple food in the future, and then a little vegetables or weeds can be provided.

To this day, some people still believe in the superstition that "letting rabbits drink water will die immediately". Even pet shops will tell owners that it is best not to feed and drink water. But rabbits, like other animals, will die if they do not drink water. However, since vegetables and weeds containing a lot of water were fed in the past, there was enough water in these foods; if you feed too much water, it will affect the health of the intestines and stomach, causing diarrhea, and the wet cage is easy to make rabbits sick. This is the reason why rabbits can not drink water. If they take dry workers' feed as the staple food, of course they need to drink water.

Rabbit stools are usually hard, round black particles, and occasionally soft feces, which may be eaten immediately if you don't pay attention to the cage sentence. These soft faeces, which contain indigestible plant fibers in the food, are eaten into the abdomen again, and after the nutrients needed by the body are absorbed, the round feces are excreted. If you don't eat these droppings, some rabbits may die from lack of nutrition. Rabbits do not eat their own poop because of mental illness, like cats and dogs, so there is no need to worry about it.

On average, a cage with a length of about 50-60 cm on each side can hold 1-2 frees. Squirrel cages, large birdcages and cat cages are available on the market. When making your own cages, make sure the wood is hard enough to avoid being bitten off. Wooden slats are used at the bottom of the cage to facilitate the discharge of dirt and avoid excessive dampness in the cage. It is best to use barbed wire on the front and side to make the cage have good courage.

If raised outdoors, the ground is directly used as the ground of the breeding hut, the rabbit may dig a hole to escape, which should be paid special attention. Other rabbits are not resistant to stuffy heat and humidity, if they are raised outdoors, Meiyu and Yan should be careful not to put the cage in an airtight room or a balcony that will bask in the sun.

About 8 months after birth, the rabbit is sexually mature. When the female rabbit is restless, it is a sign of estrus. After mating, the male rabbit will make a loud cry and go into a coma. After pregnancy, female rabbits should be separated from male rabbits. Lay straw or other hay in the cage and surround the cage with cloth. Try not to touch it to keep the female rabbit quiet and stable. The female rabbit can make her own belly hair to make a nest. From pregnancy to birth, the female rabbit will become very neurotic and overexposed, and the female rabbit may bite the owner or kill the rabbit she gave birth to. A baby can give birth to 5-6 rabbits, when there is not enough food or water, the female rabbit may eat the rabbit, so the quantity should be slightly more than usual. After about 30 days, the rabbit can leave the nest, at this time can not let the rabbit leave the mother rabbit, soaked in milk bread, soft vegetables to feed, it is easy to domesticate. If you have difficulty in care, you can wait until the rabbit can eat the food of the adult rabbit, and then separate from the female rabbit.

Diseases

5. Hairy ball disease

When you clean your body, you swallow too much hair and form a ball in your stomach, resulting in symptoms of the digestive system. Such as lust, diarrhea and so on. When the hair ball is too large, it may block the intestines and cause death. When the hair ball can be felt by palpation, it should be removed by operation. Long-haired rabbits are particularly prone to this disease, and owners should always help comb their hair to prevent the disease from happening.

6. Pasteurellosis (Snape's disease)

Although Pasteurella multocida is the cause of the disease, environmental stress or other diseases can also cause acute symptoms. Symptoms include rhinitis, pneumonia, conjunctivitis, otitis media, etc., as well as heart and genital infections. If it deteriorates to severe septicemia, it may die. Treatment should be started when there is a mild respiratory infection. If treated, it will turn into a chronic disease. After the disease turns into a chronic disease, inappropriate stress can lead to more serious symptoms. The pressure referred to here includes high humidity, narrow cages, dirty air, improper food, and so on. It can be treated with antibiotics appropriately.

7. Coccidiosis

In most rabbit feces, this kind of coccidia is called protozoa, and the initial symptoms of infection are not obvious. If you are in poor health, it is one of the reasons for the disease. If a large number of coccidial eggs are found in feces, sulfonamide preparation should be taken for treatment.
