About 60 genera and more than 600 species are distributed in the tropics and subtropics of the world, and a few extend to the north temperate zone.

There are 16 genera and 54 species in China, which are mainly distributed in the provinces south of the Yangtze River.

Morphological features:

Shrubs or small trees, 3-5 m tall. Odd-pinnate compound leaves, leaflets 9-17, lanceolate-oblong, 5-12cm long, panicle terminal, 10-20cm long, flowers small, light green. The core is crimson.

The flowering period is from July to August and the fruit period is from September to October.

The mature period is early, generally 4 years old can blossom and bear fruit, which can last about 30 years.

Growth habits:

Strong adaptability, cold resistance, drought resistance, saline-alkali tolerance, developed root system, strong sprouting ability, fast growth, short life span, but strong natural regeneration ability. Even after defoliation in winter, the female plant is still full of "torch", which is quite peculiar.

Positive tree species, extremely adaptable. Born on the edge of valley beaches, dike rocks and marshes, it can also withstand drought and poor ridges, and can grow on stony slopes.

To breed:

It can colonize sensitively by sowing, leafing and root cutting. Sowing in September to collect mature ears, exposure to threshing, low-temperature wet sand stratification to the following spring planting. Leafing is to dig up a robust root and leaf seedling, with a little whisker root to carry the seed, that is to survive. Root insertion is after the seedling comes out of the nursery, the residual roots are collected and buried directly in the nursery to raise seedlings.

Mobile planting should be carried out after defoliation in late autumn and before germination next spring. When planting, it is required that the seedlings should be upright and root shu, and the big seedlings should set up pillars after planting.

Purpose:

It is a kind of foliage and fruit tree. It is suitable for cluster planting and group planting, which is an excellent colored leaf tree species for landscape gardening.

The tree has shallow root system, developed horizontal root and strong germination power of tiller root, so it is a good tree species for slope protection, dike consolidation, beach closure and sand fixation. Female inflorescences and ears bright red, summer and autumn embellished on the branches, extremely beautiful; autumn leaves turn red, very bright.

It is an ideal tree species for soil and water conservation and landscape afforestation. Bark and leaves contain tannin, which is the raw material for tannic acid; fruit contains citric acid and vitamin C, which can be used as beverage; seeds contain oil wax, which can make soap and candles; wood yellow, dense and beautiful texture, can be carved and spun handicrafts; root bark can be used medicinally.

The growth height of the tree is more than 2.0m, and the scenery is pleasant with red leaves in autumn.

Cashew belongs to the family Lacqueraceae, which belongs to the genus Cashew.

Its Latin name is "Anacardiumoccidentale". Cashew nuts are shrubs or small trees, 4-10 m high, simple, herbaceous, Obovate, 8-14 cm long, 6-8.5 cm wide, apex rounded, entire, glabrous. Panicle, densely flowered, yellow flowers. Ovary Obovate, drupe reniform, 2 × 2.5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. There is a large pear-shaped fleshy pseudocarp at the base of the fruit, which is formed by the expansion and fleshiness of the receptacle. Only the kidney-shaped drupe is the real fruit, usually the cashew nut sold in the store is the kidney-shaped drupe. The pericarp and seed coat have been removed, and there are only slightly white, flat and curved kernels, which are cotyledons and edible parts.

Cashew nuts originated in tropical America and have been widely planted all over the world. It is also planted in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Taiwan. In addition to the cashew-shaped drupe, its fleshy false fruit can also be eaten raw, or make fruit juices, jams, preserves, and wine. Cashew kernel has high oil content and can be used to produce high-grade edible oil. The oil of its fruit shell can be used as medicine and is also a preservative.
