Eperythrozoonosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Rickettsia ~ eperythrozoon parasitic on the red blood cells or plasma of humans, pigs and other animals. In recent years, eperythrozoonosis is on the rise, which can infect many animals. This disease has not only brought huge losses to the aquaculture industry, but also brought inconvenience to the lives of the people. Baoding Animal Hospital recently received a case of sheepdog, which was diagnosed as eperythrozoonosis and recovered after treatment. here are some experiences in diagnosis and treatment.

First, clinical symptoms

On admission, the typical symptoms of the sick dogs are persistent high fever and persistent fever. At the same time, physical weight loss, mental malaise, loss of appetite, until obsolete.

2. Laboratory testing

1. Take a drop of venous blood from the sick dog, drop it on the slide, add the same amount of normal saline to reduce the plasma concentration, smear evenly on the glass rod slide, then cover the cover slide, and observe under a high-power microscope (400-600). A large number of red blood cells can be deformed.

two。 Take a drop of venous blood from the sick dog, drop it on the slide, add the same amount of 0.1% dilute HCL on the slide, apply it evenly with the glass slide, cover the cover slide, and observe it under a high-power microscope (40000600). A large number of worms can be found.

3. Microscopic examination of Giemsa staining showed that the cells were amaranth, irregular and uneven, surrounded by many pink and fuchsia worms. Due to the refractive nature of the eperythrozoon, the center shines like a bubble.

Microscopic examination of Wright's staining showed that the red blood cells were lavender and the eperythrozoon was light blue, and the red blood cells were gear-shaped and pineapple-shaped.

III. Diagnosis

According to the clinical symptoms of high fever, anemia, jaundice and other symptoms, blood routine examination of erythrocytopenia, leukocytosis, hemoglobin concentration decreased and other epidemiological characteristics, combined with blood smear microscopic examination can be diagnosed.

IV. Treatment

1. Animals with high fever, with three nitrogen rice (Xuechongjing, Benier) 4 mg per kg body weight, long-acting antimicrobial agents per kg body weight 0.1 ml, once a day, cross intramuscular injection every other day.

two。 Amikacin 100 ~ 200,000 IU was added to 5% glucose for intravenous infusion, once a day.

3. Antongding, dexamethasone, vitamin K3, vitamin B12 and sodium glucuronate were injected subcutaneously twice a day.

According to the above treatment, the sick dog was cured and discharged after 5 days.

V. Prevention

Because the disease often occurs in a humid environment and blood-sucking insects multiply in this environment, it has been proved that it is impossible to control eperythrozoonosis without the control of scabies mites and lice. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the hygiene and disinfection of the breeding enclosure, extinguish ticks, scabies mites, lice, fleas and other blood-sucking insects, and cut off their contact with animals, so as to reduce the occurrence of the disease. At the same time, it is also very important to disinfect and clean the enclosure frequently. Finally, when taking preventive drugs to animals, we should strengthen their exercise to strengthen their physique and improve their resistance.
