In the diagnosis and treatment of pets, the digestive system diseases of dogs are most encountered, and a simple enema method can be used to achieve good results.

Scope of application of enema therapy

When ① dogs show gastroenteritis symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, faeces with blood odor and so on, enema therapy can be used to exclude dilute feces, emptying intestines and rectal administration directly.

When dry stool and difficult defecation occur in ② dogs, enema therapy can be used to soften feces and lubricate the intestines.

③ dogs show strong vomiting, loss of appetite, pressing the abdominal wall can touch sausage-like elastic hard objects and other intussusception symptoms can be treated with deep enema.

When oral administration of ④ is difficult in dogs, rectal enema can be used for administration.

Specific operation method: take an empty infusion bottle, fill it with warm enema liquid (about 35 degrees), install the infusion device, cut off the connector under the infusion device, and insert the broken end of the plastic pipe into the No. 14 catheter for human use. Turn on the infusion switch and check whether the plug is leaking. If there is any leakage, insert the plastic pipe inward and tighten again and turn off the infusion switch.

Put the dog prone on the treatment table, put the back two legs of the treatment table up, so that the dog is in a low front and high back position. If the dog is more tame, it can be allowed to stand for enema. Cut off the dirty coat around the dog's anus, insert the round end of the catheter from the anus, and drain fluid at the same time to lubricate the intestine. Insert the catheter as much as possible, especially for retention enema, which is conducive to the penetration of the liquid into the intestine. If you find a blockage, you can twitch the catheter back and forth, or let the dog discharge the feces and then continue the enema.

The function of non-liquid enema is to relieve defecation and expel gas and clean the intestines. The amount of enema solution is large, generally 250 to 1000 milliliters at a time (depending on the size of the dog), the solution bottle is often raised to increase the perfusion pressure and the speed of enema is faster. Let the dog defecate immediately after filling.

The effect of fluid retention enema is to inject therapeutic drugs, supplement nutrients or soften the hardened feces, the speed of enema should not be too fast, the amount of solution should not be too large, maintain the front low and back high position after irrigation, and block the anus with canine tail root pressure for a period of time. Before doing retention enema to inject drugs and replenish nutrients, it is best to wash the intestines with warm water and expel the accumulated feces.

A commonly used enema solution that does not leave a liquid.

① saline has mild irritation and can be used for clearing intestines and defecating bowels with intestinal diseases. ② 0.1% 0.2% soapy water (add soap to boiling water until milky white), used to clear intestines before operation or to induce labor before delivery, and can also exhale gas. ③ turpentine solution (turpentine 4ml mixed with 500ml soapy water) can drive out gas accumulation in the intestines.

Enema fluid retained for enema

① can treat acute and chronic enteritis by adding antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs to normal saline.

② 30g 60ml glycerin or vegetable oil, add warm water to 100ml 200ml; use 50ml magnesium sulfate 30ml, glycerin 60ml, add 90ml lukewarm water to prepare 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 3 enema liquid; dissolve 10g of salt in 100ml warm water, prepare 10% hypertonic saline, which can be used to soften feces, lubricate intestines and promote fecal excretion.

③ 5ml dexamethasone, 10ml antongding, 40ml Houttuynia cordata, plus 100ml normal saline, prepared a mixed solution, which can be used to treat all kinds of high fever in dogs and can play a rapid antipyretic effect.

④ saline 200ml added nearly 5ml or 0.5% atropine 1ml, deep enema, can treat early intussusception, relieve intestinal spasm, relieve pain, fill the intestinal tube, and restore the intussusception.
